HEY YOU ALL
This section is for all of you that like to go to tournaments. Well come here and post when you are going, how you did, and if you did something there that you would like to tell us about. THIS IS NOT THE SECTION TO PUT DOWN SOMEONE ABOUT HOW THEY DID. So if you go to a tourney, give us the scoop and tell us how you did!

I've got loads of sad stories about trips to tournaments with Cooler and the gang. (sorry about the pun). Some of the worst moments were :
Drove for 8 hours to get to Birmingham, only to be drawn against Cooler in the first round. I'll not say who won, since I'm not allowed to put anyone down!
Drove 4 hours to Sheffield and couldnt find the venue (after 2 hours driving around Sheffield!). Drove 4 hours home.
Got to the final of a national open (MAI) continuous sparring event by beating several high graded black belts. Lost to a blue belt (3rd grade in Lau Gar) in the final.
Highlights were :
Won MAI's junior (below black belt) forms championship. Mainly because I was the only person to attend all 4 events.
Got a second in the junior forms in the Emerald Isle Open (Teams from Scotland, England and Ireland).

Just thought ide tell you how i did. Well first of all i didnt do to well. I got 3rd in sparring 3rd in weapons and 4th in katas. I got by tail kicked in sparring. I ended up fighting the RASKA heavy weight poing fighting champ in our age range. He hassnt been beat in 4 years. then one of the other guys that was in my group was the south american kick boxing champ so it didnt look to good for me. Those two ended up fighting for 1st and the guy i fought won.
But i still placed.

By the sounds of it Chazz you didn't do to badly. :)

You did really well Chazz, congrats :)
I love entering tournaments, not because of the sport/competition etc, but because it gives me a chance to mix socially with other ppl from my style. And also so far every tournament I've entered has been held in pubs so that helps :)
I just wish i could go in more of them

And Chazz well you always seem to kick butt. :)
Cooler.
I had my tournament today, BKK Shobu Nihon (WUKO/stop start). It took a five hour bus trip to get from Cardiff to Dagenham, and we had to be up at 4am! We did well as a club, 4 of us fought, and we had a 1st place and a 3rd place, although me and another fighter went out in round one. I lost 3-2, so it was a pretty close call. Its still invaluable experince tho, and not bad for my first major tournament :)

Thanks
Well im back. I did ok i guess.
Weapons: I chose to do a double Nunchaku form. It started out great. the strikes were hard and fast, the crosses were swift and the wrist rools were on time. I got to where i just had 4 moves left and missed a under arm catch and messed it up. So i came in 4th. One the up site i was one only black belt out of about 20 that got a standing ovation after the weapons comp. I was told by the judges if i would have landed that last moves i would have got first. Oh well, i had fun
Katas. I got the gold (1st) At first i got silver but it was over turned due to some reason and i was given gold.
Fighting. I was told that i did the sweetest looking hook kick to a 6'2 guys head. I did end up lookin 2-3or4 and got sliver (2nd)
I had a great time. All of our students came back with at least one placement, and the older underblets that i help work in fighting all got GOLDs. I was also asked by the Kentucky National Karate Team Coach to rejoin his team this year and represent the state of KY in the nationals.

I've never ever been to a MA tournament of any kind at all PERIOD. The closest I ever encounterd a tournament was tv. Sad, but true, however, I have always wanted to go to one be it to particapate, or just to watch. I have ideas of participating though. Any thoughts from anyone on that, or helpful tips anyone could give me on going about doing so if I don't belong to a MA school/club or anything.....
Well, my roomate and I were thinking about going to this martialarts festival in France next year. There they would have tournaments, exhibitions, demonstations, etc. I think that should be interesting, although we probally wont have enough money to go anyway:(
Got the British Nihon Shobu Championships (stop/start) this Saturday in Reading, fighting in the Ladies Senior Low Grade Catergory.
Its funny, I was just looking at the posts here, and I'd made a post for when I went to the same tourny last year. Time files when your having fun!
