View Full Version : been stabbed by a knife? know someone who has?...
... in the past three years then call direct line and get compensation :D
ok, actually i was just curious as to how it felt to be stabbed by a knife, if you have ever been stabbed by a knife or know someone who has then please could you tell me how it felt or ask the person who got stabebd how they felt.
ive alwyas wondered if you would feel it or not and whether you can move almost immediately after being stabbed or not. Also how long was it before you were completely healed, by this i mean how long was it before the injury stopped hinderign you ma or sport.
i wasnt quite sure where to post this so if any mods wish to move it feel free.

The knive was buried about 4inches into the side of my thigh. Cant remember exactly what I was doing at the time, but it was at home I remember. First thing was pure shock....my brain trying to figure why there was pain, where it was, and why it was there!? After that there was no immediate pain in the wound itself, just my whole leg, I couldnt stand on it, but the thigh didnt burn or nothing. There was a burning hot sensation when I pulled it out. I didnt fancy the hospital as I was younger and I didnt wanna tell my dad Id been playin with knives.
Anyhow, as soon as I removed it there was quite a lot of blood. It was running down my leg in a steady stream, but not squirting, so I figured no artery cut. After about an hr I was able to hobble on the ball of my foot, and by the morning I could walk lightly on it.
Im a very quick healer, and with 2 weeks, a few home made stitches, and a lot of antiseptic there was a tidy scar.

I remember thinking I had sat in something wet then my mate said you have a screwdriver sticking out your shoulder ( I know it is not a knife but I was stabbed), at the hospital I was given a local and a muscle relaxant and it was pulled out and a nice Welsh doctor gave me one stitch, it was 3 inches into my shoulder cavity. it did not hurt till the next day but I was pissed (drunk not upset) when it happened, it was a scuffle on a night bus with some guys from another scheme.

Never been stabbed but............I was once impaled on a spiked fence to the front of my thigh muscle when I was 10 years old if that counts, had 3 stitches and 2 weeks off school and I was brought home in a police car as well, what hurt me the most was my dad hitting me for causing him the inconvienince of having to take me to the hospital. I still have the scar (one of many stitch marks)

I have seen people whom have been stabbed and cut but my experience with them has been patch them up, throw them in the back of the ambulance and off load them at the hospital. So no real long term knowledge of how it effected them etc. messy as though
However, my mate was bayonetted in the chest whilst in the army. He suffered a collapsed lung. WHen they reinflated his lung he felt everything as the anaesthetic did not work on him. He was never quiete the same after that and whenever he sees a edged weapon he goes to peices.

When I was fifteen a drunk stabbed me 4 times in the shoulder and lower arm. I was at the mall with some friends, he was out side by the doors when we got there, but he didn't say or even look at us when we went in.
When we left he started to stare at me so I looked away, got just past him and he starts screaming "who do you think you are to look down on me" by the time I turned around to see what was up, he done got me twice in top of my shoulder, I put my arm up and caught two slash marks on the under part of my forearm.
It didn't really hurt so much during the time of the wounds, I figure it was the fear and being pumped up. The stab wounds bruised real bad the slash marks were not that deep, basicly the bruising hurt worse than the act itself. I dont remember how long it took to heal, sorry, I can tell you that the stab wounds took longer than the slash wounds, and it really sucked becouse I couldn't get the stab wounds stitched, they were more like gashes than clean cuts.
It's funny though, you don't think or act like you would want in that kinda situation, puting my arm up had nothing to do with anything I learned. It was luck and fear, had he not been drunk, I would prob be dead, I threw one punch and to be honest, I dont no if it was as much a punch as trying to get him away from me, it was just luck that his eye was where my hand went.

I don't know if it counts, but i had a new nurse/doctor, lance my knee to drain some swelling, guy said it wasn't meant to be comparable with being stabbed.
Anyway, the first thing is the surprise, followed by a wave of acute pain, spreads out to the rest of the leg, about half way down shin to half way up thigh. After a few minutes it seems to settle down and just moan at you abit. The next day it let meknow when i moved it, after that it was more a concern about stitches and some stupid physio who kept grabbing it.
However, the pain i was feeling might be down to other factors. At the time half my anterior cruciate ligament was lodged in my knee joint, preventing movement, and two days after this i was recovering from surgury, so pain killers were on hand

Does stabbing yourself by accident when training count? If so, yeah, I have.
Dropped a knife through my foot while cooking.
It slipped from my hand and I had backed away from the counter (NEVER try to catch a falling knife) and it bounced off the edge and stuck right in my foot. Luckily I missed the bones and nerves so all I had was some severe pain after the shock subsided.

I have been slashed in the palm of my hand. Reflex action forced me to catch the blade not knowing what else to do and it resulted in cutting two tendons of my left forefinger and the nerve up the thumb side of the forefinger and it also went into the joint capsule.
I remember a spray of blood, not dissimilar to that of a bad kung fu movie (when the knife hit, it popped the skin like a water balloon). Just dull pain until the surgeon had to inspect and clean it four hours later. It was wide and deep so healing took a while. The actual gash itself healed within about a month but the tendons took over three months to heal to a level where I could utilise my hand for moderate tasks. Its been almost a year now and the only things I am not allowed to so are activities like rock climbing where there is excessive tension on the individual tendons.
Not much fun at all.
This is the reason I take MA.

I cut my finger while cutting onions :D. That count?
Also when I was in high school I was trying to sew these shorts they were making us make. I was looking while I was using the machien (chatting up a girl if I remember correctly :D) and it went straight through my thumb nail. It was right in the centre. I actually didnt even notice until the girl screamed. Then I looked at it. I honestly didnt feel anything at all, must of been the shock.
I didnt feel anything till the doctor took it out. Owww that hurt.
Did I answer the question? :D

I stabbed my friend with a sword on accident, lol. I dont know why, or how, but he just got stabbed in the stomach and he looked down, looked up at me and just said "Dude... you stabbed me." It was about 2 inches in, and he said it felt like i punched him in the stomach.. took him a while to be able to sit up right again...

Errrrm, Dont really know how to answer this but to say that it BLOODY WELL HURTS.
I have been stabbed by a broken glass in the lower back. That seemed to sting like crap mainly due to the alchohol on the glass, then it got infected so that took me 3 weeks to get over all together but I would have to say that the pain wasnt that bad till the next day. My first time though was when I was shot with a spear gun by accident. The spear entered my shin, deflected off the bone and continued through the other side. Leg sorta went numb and the muscles would not work properly so I had trouble walking. The pain really set in though when we pulled the spear out.

Wouldn't the alcohol help prevent infection?
It would help if it was pure alcohol but drinking alcohol has organic material in it which would induce infection.

Maybe a little but who knows what the alcohol was mixed with and as wax said there is organic stuff in alcohol, scotch for instance is soaked on oak to mellow it.Plus bits of glass broke off in my back and I didnt go to a hospital to get it seen too till 2 days later, by that time things were starting to go pear shaped.

When i was in school, my buddy got his throat slit by a 13 year old kid, he was 17 at the time. The kid came up behind him when he was having a smoke on the curb. The kid bolted right away before my friend had time to stand up. But when he did, blood starting pooring out all over is chest, he said one thing, "damn thats gonna leave a scar..." then hit the dirt. We managed to get him to a clinic, after raping a T shirt around his neck, he lost half his blood and was declaired legally dead at the hospital. They some how revived him though, dont know how, he should have been dead for sure. Man he looked like hell in the hospital, he finally woke up 3 days later, but he couldnt talk or go to the bathroom or nothin. When he could finally talk again, he said one thing "Dude, you got a smoke." He was preatty much fine in 2 weeks, asided from the huge stiches, funny thing was he never felt any of it. He said the only thing that hurt through the whole thing was when the nurses jammed, and rermoved a peice of tubing the size of your pinky finger out of his....uhhhh, where the sun dont shine (sorry kiddies, this is a pubic site) The doc said, ironically, haveing your throat slit is one of the least pain fully of seriouse injuries, i should think being stabed in the gut would be worse. True story yall, you can check the old vancouver sun papers on line, "west van stabbing" they called it, lol, damn news crews cant get nothing right. Sad part about the whoelt hing though, some 10 year old and his girlf friend saw the whole thing, they pretty much wacked in the head now, poor girl dont even talk much.

Haven't been stabbed, but I have a deep scar on my left pectoral, from an altercation at a local park in 1997; a little reminder that some guys play dirty. He was being a bit too chummy with some of my friends, so I told him to leave. He draws his knife and then slashes. And it burned like the devil. My whole shirt was dripping with blood, luckily some of the bystanders managed to keep my attacker from continuing the assault, or he would have stabbed me to death. I was still standing, but the whole shock of how close I was to having my face cut open... Scary.

Why on earth did that kid slash your friends throat?
The worst i have had was probably my friend slashing my shin with his katana to test if it was sharp(slicing paper just didnt do it for him) it was to the bone and about 7cms long, the only pain that i felt was the instant it happened, after that i couldnt feel a thing and kept on playing counter strike as he wiped the blood off my leg every three seconds. All that we did was laugh about why he did it, he didnt even know why he did it and i didnt care.

It wasnt something that usually happens thats why it was so funny cause it was about 3am and we just finished watching white man cant jump. here is what happened. "Nah man its not that sharp we gotta work on it a bit more." says I.
"Nah its sharp as, it slices paper good as."
"Yeah but paper aint flesh and its not very good at chopping."
So my friend decides to do the ultimate test, shin slicing!

You are a nut, " Hello! Is this the FruitLoop Factory???"
close friend used to come training straight from work. There was an empty room upstairs in his workplace. He used to go up there on his lunch and practice with weapons.
One day he practicing changing grips with a wakasashi (short japanese sword).
He dropped it, blade pointing down and tried to catch it. He ended up driving it into his femeral artery (the big one on the inside of the thigh/groin)
His office was two minutes from A&E and he survived, just!
He said to me afterwards that he now understood why I was 'into all that spiritual stuff' because coming so close to dying had a marked effect upon his 'happy-go-lucky' outlook and forced him to examine just what he was doing with his life.
I've driven my own katana into my thumb when practicing re-sheathing at home. Blood spurting everywhere and a trip to A&E to get stitched, (told them I slipped with a stanley knife, cos I felt a right fool)
Ever since then I've followed the old superstition about bladed weapons. I give my self a small nick with any new blade, the belief being that once a blade has tasted the blood of its owner, it won't cut you again, provided you treat it with appropriate respect. I've never made such a stupid mistake again!
*xenmaster runs round the house touching all wooden objects and salutes the magpie sat on the garden fence*
just remembered another one, the same lad as above...
last summer our instructor had the three highest kyu grades separate from the main group and we were to work on weapons. A nice collection of weapons were laid out on the grass (bo, hanbo, jo, kusari, jitte, tessen, tanto, katana, kama)
two of us picked a different weapon and tried them out against each other, looking for advantages/disadvantages.
Me n my mate had a very heated bo/kama battle which got us both fired up. Then I had to go against him with a katana and he was unarmed. I was tired and it was hot
and I could feel my concentration slipping, so I stopped and gave the blade to third lad and asked him to take over while i grabbed a mouthful of water from the outside tap.
When I turned round, my mate was kneeling down holding his hand. He had tried to stop the cut by moving out the way and catching the grip of the assailants katana. He mis-judged it and caught the blade as it was descending. The blade did it's job well and sliced through three of his fingers. Luckily it was only a flesh wound as the blade, although live, was quite old and dull.
Fortunately our instructor has first-aid qualifications coming out of his ears and has dealt with lots of serious injuries (he has saved over half a dozen lives) so it healed well!
But then, if you play with fire, you will one day get burnt. If you train with bladed weapons then there is a serious risk. But if you go steady and slow, that risk can be managed. I am convinced that accident only occured because the three of us were getting a bit over confident and were letting adrenaline call the shots instead of reasoned judgement.
Play safely kids, or the govt. might just take our toys away!

Right
First slashing (not my fault) was at party aged 14 and was out in back garden entertaining a young lady I had met at the girls house who hosted the party. Then a older guy came in and came out in the gardern and over to us, I distracted myself from the young lady I was with in time to see this lads foot heading towards my back. Ouch I then fell in the flowerbed (very commical) and a fight broke out. I hit the guy a few times and he ran into the kitchen so I followed (he was 17 at the time and I could not work out why he was so angry as I did not know him) in truth it was becuase I was with his girlfiend (hey I did not know she was seeing anyone!) As I confronted him in the kitchen he picked up a carving knife and started waving it about. A friend of mine saw this and got his attention (this guy was drunk and a well known scum bag) and as his attention was taken by my fiend shouting at him to put it down I rushed in (my mistake) and we started to wrestle, I felt the knife slash down my side and it stung, then as I started to beat hell out of his face some of his mates from outside the house came in. Big fight broke out with these older lads and they then ran off with the guy who had the knife.
I knew I was cut but it was not bad and I realise this was more my mistake than anything else. Live and learn

2nd incident was friend of mine went and I went out to give him a farewell do as he and his fiance were moving to London. We were at a small seaside town which was near to where we lived. Think I was about 17 at this time and saw a group of girls which was the Fiancee party out at the same place as us to wish Stacy a good bye.
My friend said hey there is Stacy (due to distance I was unsure but he recognised her jacket and we went over). There was a group of guys there trying to chat them up and one said to us the usual $%% off as these girls are taken etc. My mate said yes by me as I am enguaged to one of them. Short version is fight ensued after a row and it was one on one so I stayed out of it. One of the other group picked up a scafolding pole as they were doing some renovations and before he could intervene I protected my mate.
They guys soon ran off as some old lady in dognut store said she had called the police and I assumed that was the end of it.
However week went by and I am taking video back to store in the little village I lived in at the time when a car pulls up. Same guy and 3 more get out of car. After some discussions on where my mate was as he was in London at this point it seemed I was the unlucky one. He calmly pulled a lock knife and as he was drawing the blade I belted him pretty hard, I did not close the distance as fast as I should have done and hence took a slash as he fell back to my arm (big scar now) I then went beserk through suprise and anger and only really remember kicking there car whilst the sped off.
Know I know knife work I would do both instances VERY differently and consider myself lucky to only have minor scars from one of the events.
The Katana is a scar above my eye from a demo where one of the guys in Ninjitsu messed up and was too close with his SIMULATED strike - luckily sword was so sharp I did not feel a thing until the manga style blood stated to flow. Quickly off to hospital for 4 stitches.
No harm done.

ONe of these similar situations did happen to me I was in my dojo downstairs changing after I took my shoes off and put them ina locker I took a step back and stepped on this sharp glass. IT went through my heel Ouchhh. The reaction caused me to fall on the floor. I then had a tingling sensation go up to my thigh. Its more of the shock then the cut itself. When I went to the ambulance they took the piece of glass out now that Hurt

This has nothing to do with knives, but when i was nine i walked under a large steel support cable for a bridge and as i crossed under it i stood up too soon and split my head open. The gash was about 4 cms long. I only noticed that i had hit my head but thought nothing of it until my grandad told me i had blood gushing down the back of my neck, I put my hand on it and remember it being sticky and hot, wiped my hand and got into the car. I never felt a thing besides the initial contact with the cable so much so that while i was in the car i spotted a hat and put it on haha my grandad yelled "What the hell are you doing, you will get blood all over it!"
Went to get the stitches and i fell asleep i was so bored. I was never shocked at all but the weird thing is that the other time i split my head open(fell off a wheely bin) it really hurt. Sorry for the irrelevance of my post, but it has something to do with the whole pain aspect of it.

LOL. I just remebered another one. When I was about 8 to 10 ish A mate and me were playing some sort of game where we faced each other, a few feet apart, and take it in turns to throw a knife somewhere near enough that the other person had to move a foot to it. A bit like twister with knives. Well my mate puts everything into a throw and manages to hit me in the foot. It was sheer class, the knife went straight through my shoe and all but pinned my foot to the floor. Now both of us are a little freaked and don't move. Just then a women who was walking past and had seen the whole thing approached saying "Oh my God, don't move". Slowly, carefully she pulls the knife out of my foot asking all the time "Tell if I hurt you, let me know if it hurts". Well guess what, the knife had gone right between my big toe and the next one missing my foot completely :D

Taking a knife really isn't that bad if you put yourself in the right situation(IMHO). I once experienced that whole question of "which hurts more, a small wound or a large one?" when in fact the answer is most commonly the first. Now let's see....
I have gotten stabbed in the stomach, luckily i was able to stop it to a degree so it didn't get too far, and really didn't hurt that bad since I already had adrenaline in me. It was more of a sense "I know I got hit, I can feel it, but it doesn't hurt.." Sort of like a ghost punched me which needless to say hurt later.
In my experience, cuts do worse damage than pierces do. Or they did for me. Got punched in the arm several times, which didn't present a real problem unless they dug up muscle, slices more than punches, for sure, unless they were deep didn't take long to heal at all.
From experience, getting cut is a lot better than getting stabbed, unless it's very deep it'll heal fast, cuts. Stabs on the other hand will take a while as it can sever muscles and potentially organs, and major blood escape may hinder healing to a degree.
That's all my experience on cutting. Sorry there's so many blanks, I'm sorta sleep deprived right now.

Crimison Demon's post is kinda all over the place, but I think we need to establish one thing so everyone understands:
In the vast majority of cases STABS are far more dangerous than SLASHES/CUTs. There really isn't debate about this. Yes, if eyes get slashed it's a bad, abd thing. But, contrary to popular belief, slashing the neck with the average knife is not life threatening. Stabbing the neck is. Same with the torso. In many cases you need only about an inch of penetration to kill.

I got stabbed in the neck when i was 21 outside a kebab house. It was with a pair of scissors and luckily didn't go in that deep. It left a little scar about 1cm on my neck but you can hardly notice it these days. :)

Several of my friends have been stabbed in fights, one of them has it on tape. He was running security and it was on the nightclub's camera ;)
My weapons trainer was stabbed also.
I've seen a few stabbings in fights before, one was in the back of the head with a weapon a guy made at my school.
Nothing like the movies fellas.

I'll give you the abbreviated version. Leaving a pro ballgame downtown with my sons. A punk teenager jumps out with a small knife and wants our bags. I yelled at a policeman I saw behind the kid. The kid turns around and raises his arm, I jump at him getting the knife in the back of my right hand cutting a couple of tendons. The kid goes down when my middle son (YEEEAAAAHHHH) smashed his left knee joint, I'm pounding on this punk when the policeman nicely cuffs him and hauls his sorry butt off to jail.
The KICKER!!!!! The punk turns out to be 15 years old, I've already been served with the papers regarding the lawsuit.....I'll give updates as I have them....

Was sliced many years ago in a fight, down my arm with a stanley knife I knew it had happened but didn't really feel anything. When I moved my jumper it started pumping lots of clarret. Any way the injection ( local anasthetic ) hurt more than the slice, i'm not a very good healler so it took some time. Also got spiked right in the knuckle joint by a guitar string It hurt like hell :) :) :) :p I'm a wimp

On an unrelated note, I once read about a guy who was stabbed in the heart in a bar fight. However, he didn't die, because his heart was't in the left part of the chest but in the middle.
Lucky dude.
