Hi everyone,
I am just curious. Approximately, how many technique is teach in your style of Hapkido for the 1st DAN ?
I think that some Hapkido school (in Canada and Usa) does not teach any more all the techniques in order to attract more student (i.e.: to make easier).
Am I right?
Thank you.

In World Traditional Hapkido Aliance there is only 50 techniques total for 1st dan. that is one of the reasons why i was looking into other HKD schools for my area.

Doju Nim Choi, Yong Sul taught around 100 techniques for 1st dan level. In Jungki Hapkido we have 102 techniques required for 1st dan level. There are some groups that require 300 -400 techniques but they also count every PP and strike variation as individual techniques. I believe that as long as principles and important motion are taught 100 techniques are more than enough if you want 1st dans to learn the material well. :)
Take care

I think it all depends on how you count them like Jungkihapkido said. Our org. counts each kick as 1 technique like #1 right front kick is one technique. I would say that if you feel that you are learning techniques that make sense and the curriculum and training are challenging for you then you should be okay.
It does depend on how you count it. In WGK Hapkido, we have to learn 112 "main skill" techniques (throws, locks, etc.), something like 25 different kicks and strikes and then 8 forms.

You are probably right, It does depend on how you count it...
In our organisation, we count each variation has one technique. (ex: we have 4 front hair grabbing defense, 5 back hair grabbing, etc.).
Generaly we have between 8-12 variation by group (ex: front shoulder, back shoulder, front belt, back belt, wrists, defense from kick (Ap, Yup, Dwit, Dora, etc.), punch, etc.) Also we have 12 forms (with and without weapons).
We have 12 Gup for the 1st DAN. In our program, all Gup have approx. 50-60 news techniques (or variations). It's a lot of stuff and a lot of practice to memorise all these techniques without cut in quality and efficacity.

In our Hapkido association there is about 120 techniques for 1st DAN level, to be efficient and thoroughly learn there should only be about 60

And they vary slightly by school...
Nice list and pretty close to what we do (although we don't have cane as a required component).
There is also a list of required breakfalls, kicks, and strikes (I don't remember how many without looking it up though).

Does that mean 20 break aways, 20 two-hand grab defences etc?
Thats alot compaired to our school. Are alot of them the same techniques in different settings?

The basic concepts and techniques surface throughout the categories and some of the additional techniques are merely variations of others.
In my experience, I find that Combat Hapkido has a lot more "techniques" listed than I studied in Traditional Hapkido, but a lot of them are variations and different entries and/or finishes to a technique from another area (concepts are the same).
