Went to see this last night with the HWU Aikido club.

Excellent Effects!

Excellent Action!

Actually had a plot as well!

Although is anyone else getting fed up with the Master of Magnetism using helicopters to escape?

The Mystique scenes were either sexy or hillarious!

Colin

P.S Anyone for a Phoenix?

Absoultely fabulous movie and the number of comic quick refrences were excellent...Dr H McCoy on tv as well ;)

There were enough of these to keep the comic readers happy and the story lines havn't been messed with too much. Plot was actually pretty and as for Phoenix...maybe she might be a little Dark ;)

Going to go see it tonight, my wife would not let me attend the midnight show last night (something about me being sick... ). And don't forget, tomorrow is FREE comic book day!

I missed the Multiple Man reference. An excellent movie all in all and Rogue has grown up a fair bit too... Be good to see Henry (Beast) in the next one - I had thought that with the references to 'any mutants reveling themselves have been met with hostility' would have been a good opportunity to bring him in this time.

Be good to have PsiLocke in too... But not Morph or Archangel.

I've seen teh trailer and I really wann see this film.

How essential is it to see the 1st one before watching this though? I haven't seen the 1st one.

Maybe you could get by without seeing the first one but I think things would make a LOT more sense if you watched the first X-Men movie first. In the first movie, you meet the characters for the first time (even if you know the comics, it's still different) and their relationships with each other. I definitly recommend watching the first movie before going to see this one. Plus this movie seems to continue soon after the first one left off.

Enjoy!

Ah - I see.

Reminds me of when I went to see Dare Devil with some buddies in Glasgow a few months back. I realised during the intro that it must be a comic too :D

You're joking! X-men, Spiderman, the Hulk, Daredevil are all Marvel comic book characters. I'm pretty sure Stan Lee (the guy who created Spiderman) created the X-men too. X-men has been a comic book for a long time! I used to read X-men and Excaliber comics for awhile but then I switched over to the DC Universe (Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash, etc). I never got to go see Daredevil. But I recommend that you go see both X-men movies (in order!). ;)

FANTASTIC!! Just got home from seeing it and I thought it was better than the first! Yoda, you can see it and make sense, but still recommend you see the first one 1st. The "inside" jokes will make more sense. Yes, I see Phoenix in the next one, along with more of Colossus and Jubilee. Hank? Oh yeah, can't tease us like this and then not have him in the next one. Surprised he wasn't in the first one, founding member of the X-Men and all.

I liked it thought it was much better than the first one although it does jump about story lines quite a bit.

good to see them starting to introduce new characters.

i though it had a lot more depth than the first one

Greyghost

The Phoenix rises!!!!

definately, i think kitty pride, jubilee and colossus will all make an appearence in the next film, i really liked nightcrawler though, good character.

is it just me or does halle berry rock your boat as well as mine.?

It needs some bigger bad guys though, like cameon hodge or cable (though strictly speaking , i think cable is a good guy!)

its unlikely they'll introduce Apocolypse as i think that would be a little TOO far fetched.

bu the original story ideas are there, which is good. Nice to see The beast on the tele. i hope they introduce Gambit.

Lady Deathstrike was a bit of a wuss....i felt they could have used her a lot more.

anyways...i off to watch X-Men 1.5...see ya later

Freeform
03-May-2003, 10:51 AM
Was it just me or did they never actually call Yuriko 'Deathstrike' in the film? And Deathstrike wasn't a mutant and she didn't have adamantium, ggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!

And why wasn't Piotr in the X-men 'A team'? He's a damn sight more powerfull than 'ole one eye!

Brad Ellin
03-May-2003, 11:37 AM
Nope, never heard them refer to Yuriko as Deathstrike.
Seems the main team is taken from the mid to late '80s series in the comics. Kinda sealed it for me with the introduction of Kitty and Colossus.
Halle Berry? Rock my boat? I used to work in a comic book store in the early '80s, and a very talented customer drew and colored me a picture of Storm wearing nothing but whipped cream and a cherry. I would like to see Halle wearing the same.
Read in the paper a few days ago, there are plans for X-3, 4 and 5 with most everyone BUT Halle Berry signing on. I guess the Oscar went to her head and she's too good for the masses.
Villains I would like to see: Hodge definitely, though I think that some arm or another of the government is going to be there. What was the name of the island nation that enslaved mutants? I think that will play a major part in the series.
Cable=good guy.
Magneto=not bad guy, just pissed off at homo sapiens. He'll get over it, eventually.
My gripe is Mystique. She looks nothing like her book character. I mean, what's with all the scales?

Spike

Lady Deathsryke did have adamantium, she had cybernetic implants didn`t she?

I have to say I wish they`d made Rogue more like her character in the comics, a sassy southern gal.

I liked the fact that cyclops was barely in it, they definetely need to have gambit in the next film.

"Lady Deathstrike was a bit of a wuss....i felt they could have used her a lot more."

and had her wear a lot less

Did anybody notice on Strykers computer screen the other folders?

There was Project WideAwake (Sentinels, YAH!)

There was Franklin Richards (That means there's a Fantastic Four, Cool!)

Whadya reckon for X3, a days of future past kinda thing? Phoenix has a vision of the future where mutants are persecuted (Ahab and the like) so she goes mad trying to sort it out with her godlike powers only to find out in the end it was her own actions that caused it?

Que Phoenix fighting with Sentinels and possibly Franklin?

Trouble is so many of the storylines are taken from other stories (ie. Terminator). Read up on the 'Cerebro' files at http://24.191.192.76:8000/pforce.html and it's like a SciFi version of Bold and the Beautiful. Good luck to the writers coming up with a worthwhile script that won't be short to pieces by the critics...

Went to watch the film with FreeForm and a load of others and thought that it was excellent!!! I liked all the in-jokes for those who are readers of the comics without going too far and ruining it for those who haven't. I do have a few gripes though....

...why have they not had the Beast and Angel in it from the start!? They were founding members of the team and should have been there!!!

...I would have prefered it if they hadn't screwed around with the ages of the various characters. I'm pretty sure that Kitty Pride was older than as portrayed in the film, as was Iceman. While he was the youngest member of the original X-Men he was not THAT much younger than Jean & Scott. I know that they can't have everyone involved but it would have been nice to have the five original X-Men in from the start, rather than having one of them as a student (Iceman), one as a brief glimpse on the TV (Beast) and one missing altogether (Angel)!

That said these were only minor things and I thought that the film was cracking. The opening sequence with Nightcrawler was brilliantly done and I thought that the special effects were top drawer. None of the usual being able to spot the CGI a mile off.

In terms of suggested stories for the next three films....

....Pheonix/Dark Pheonix is the obvious one given the end of the last movie. Should be pretty good.

....Could have the storyline where Wolverine has his adamantium removed from his body by Magneto. It would be very interesting to see how they would then develop the plot from there.

....Another good one would be the Legacy Virus. Could therefore introduce Cable/Stryfe, the Beast, (looking for a cure) and Colossus (what with the situation with his sister and all).

Some slightly less likely ones to crop up but which would be absolutely brilliant if they did....

....a story that involves the Brood. Would allow Gambit to be introduced to the story line as there is one Brood story set in New Orleans involving the Thieves Guild and The Assassins Guild.

....Age of Apocalypse storyline. This would be absolutely brilliant if it could be done right!!!!!! The Summers brothers as bad guys. Jean Grey & Logan together. Rogue being able to control her powers. Blink!!!! Sabretooth as a good guy. Jamie Madrox, Banshee etc, etc. You could even do this as a trilogy all by itself!!!!

....the Onslaught storyline. This could be done as a trilogy as well. Think of all the characters that could be brought into this.... the Fantastic 4, Spiderman, Daredevil, Punisher, Thor, AJL, the list just goes on!!!!

I've a question for you all....who would you have playing all the other characters that you'd like to see introduced? Would you want well known stars ala Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellan or relative unknowns ala the people playing Iceman, Rogue, Cyclops, Colossus etc. (so unknown that I don't know any of their real names!!!)

Must dash...bus to catch!!

Freeform
05-May-2003, 03:34 PM
Well I'd like anybody EXCEPT BLOODY JCVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even if they had sorta stated who the original 5 were and kinda had them moved on by the time of the film woulda been ok. Hank away on a lucrative research contract, Warren away managing his fathers business, Bobby lamely chatting up all the women in sight.

I think it's pretty clear that they're using characters from the comic books, but not plots. No expectation of continuity either, I'd hope. It's nice that LOTR is being true to the books, but there's way to much X-men related material to expect them to do the same.

That said, it was a nifty as hell movie, I'd like to watch that computer scene on slo-mo 'cause the only mutant I caught was Remy, and it would be spiffy to see Apocalypse in the next one--or Juggernaut, I'd consider him much more likely, filmmakers would love the brother angle.

Some X2 observations....
I thought Lady Deathstrike was actually a cyborg (not a mutant) in the comics. Pyro is supposed to be Australian and never attended Xavier's school. Gambit "in a way"appeared in the movie ("Remy Lebeau" was in the computer database). I'm also pretty sure I saw "Hank McCoy" (who made a real cameo anyway) and "Jamie Madrox" (Multiple Man).
There were a lot of other names you couldn't catch because they showed the computer screen very briefly.

Freeform
09-May-2003, 03:42 PM
In the comics Deathstrike IS a cyborg and has no adamantium, she does however have a 'healing factor' of sorts.

Your bang on about Pyro, The Beast (Hank McCoy) made an appearance on the bar TV being interviewed by a Dr Shaw, possibly Sebastian Shaw, the Black King of the Hellfire club (que Dark Phoenix Saga).

Other mutants whose name were on the 'list' were Danille Moonstar (Mirage), Coh M X'ian (sp?) (Karma), Jamie Maddrox (Multiple Man).

There ya go ;)
