Hey guys, did anyone else see In Flames play at the Hammersmith Apollo on the 27th? If so, what did you think?

I thought about it but I reasoned against it on the grounds that: "They would just play all their new material which is rubbish anyway."
Was it good?

I wanted to go because Lacuna Coil were playing as well, but none of my friends wanted to go to London so soon after Christmas. I saw In Flames when they played the Astoria a few years back with Lacuna Coil, Dimmu Borgir, Nevermore and a couple of other bands (this was when they were touring off the "Clayman" album) and they were really good, I don't really rate their last two albums though

Who are In Flames? Sorry but I an old git!!Swedish metal band. One of the pioneers of the Gothenburg scene. They play in a style generally known as 'melodic death metal'. Although recently they've turned a tad nu-metal.

No, sorry mate but I have to disagree, they have changed their style a bit but they really aren't nu metal, the nearest they get to that is "A Touch of Red" which is still pretty good, though admittedly not their best. Having said that, I don't really like most of their new stuff quite as much as their old but when I heard it live it sounded just as heavy. They played a fair bit of new stuff but also old stuff like Behind Space and Moonshield, it was a really cool gig :)
P.S. is anyone going to see the Haunted in February?

Well maybe not nu-metal then, I'm not sure what to call it. Whatever it is, it's certainly not death metal, and I'm definatly not keen on it.
I guess I just brand anything that doesn't have a guitar solo in as nu-metal :D

Thanks for that guy's, not into the death metal scene as I have not heard any of it I may check it out. Mind you I was around & into the early Venom & Celtic Frost if that counts?

Apart from Nile and Deicide I don't really listen to much straightforward death metal, I'm much more into thrash and melodic stuff like In Flames, with a select few black metal bands thrown in. That's probably why I don't care about them not sounding like death metal anymore!:D I think In Flames started to move away from death metal on Whoracle, and I also think their style matured and got better, reaching a peak on Clayman and subsiding slightly (but remaining good) on Reroute to Remain and Soundtrack to Your Escape.
Dave, I wouldn't call Venom and Celtic Frost death metal per se as they sound much more like thrash to me, but they were definitely influential! Are you into Slayer?
