She said its not Voldemort or Harry. She also said there were clues in "Chamber Of Secrets".
My guess is its Justin Finch-Fletchley. (Chapter "Gilderoy Lockheart", Chamber of Secrets)
My name was down for Eton you know
My money is on Mr. Finch-Fletchley ;) Anyone else care to cast their bets??

Psst, she has already said that neither Harry nor Voldemort is the Prince ;)PSSST I know that, but who is the only one who is known to be a half-blood male in the stories can you think of that might be elevated???? I'll give you a Big hint; he's tall, a main character, pivitol to many of the plots and sub-plots, is held in high regard by Dumbaldore, and his initials are R. H. Or was that to subtial? :D

I also thought Hagrid first of all. Then Ms Rowling hinted at clues within Chamber Of Secrets. Read my last post for my bet ;)
But I thought it was Hagrid for a long time too. :)

Good thing I started reading the books again :D
I'll be espcially watchful for clues now ;)
Anyone else notice how all their reading gets diverted into those books if you're reading more than one book at a time? Harry Potter 1 and 2 are just killing my time for Diary by Chuck Palahntuk :D

Ok ;)
The link i mentioned between books two and six does not in fact relate to the HBP. Rather, it relates to a discovery Harry made in "Chamber" that forshadows something that he finds out in "Prince".
I'm reading from the Bloomsbury paperback edition of Chamber (1998), page 73, the chapter called "Gilderoy Lockhart". When Harry and Co. are in their first herbology lesson of the year, repotting mandrakes. Reading from about halfway down the page, from;
Harry, Ron and Hermoine were joined at their tray by a curly hairedHufflepuff boy...
to the bottom of the page
My name was down for Eton, you know, I can't tell you how glad I am I came here instead...
Of course, I may be wrong. Just my personal feeling that Justin could be the HBP.

He does, because otherwise he wouldnt be at hogwarts ;) He's muggle-born, which makes him half blood. Hermione is the same.

I may be mistaken (on my way through the books again), but isnt Hermione completely muggle. "Mud-blood", which is used by people like the Malfoys in the books, describes somebody with no wizarding background.
Half-blood describes somebody with only one wizarding parent.

We have to care because it's the focus of the next book. And Dumbledore can't bite it in this book at least. He's needed for the next book.

My bet, if Rowling is following the typically hero myth, is that Dumbledore will either be captured or killed. Either way he must be effectively put out of the picture. Further, the question becomes more broadly what will happen to Hogwarts. Assuming the that seveneth book will in fact be the final one, it dramatically needs to begin with our heros in a bad position. Perhaps the school is closed (remember that Hogwarts and the Durseley's are two places where HP is relatively protected from Voldemort. At least against direct attack). So my bet is that this book with close with Hogwarts becoming a more unsafe place. And much of the immediate safety comes from Dumbledor.
The idea of Hagrid as the half blood prince is a good one.
Personally, I hope that they edit her a bit more heavily in the new book. While I overall like Order of the Pheonix, it was also Harry Potter and the fifty pages of action scene padding.

The only thing that gets me about Hagrid as the HBP, is how he was treated when he went to see the Giants in Order of the Phoenix. He wasnt treated very well, was he?
However, they may just not like half-breeds like him.

Actually it was mentioned that they don't like anyone except themselves and barely that.

This is true, but the fact that Hermione is a witch even though both her parents are muggles makes her half blooded.

I've heard the J.K. Rowling has released her new book early and that it's available now, but with a look at Amazon I doubt it. But just in case I'm wrong anyone else heard this rumor?

OK here is a different angle as to who the HBP is. maybe it is the prince of the half bloods in which it could be Dumbledore, i also read somewhere tht Fawkes (dumbledores pet phoenix) could be an Animagus of Godric Gryffindor which would mean that he could be the HBP. (however why hasnt he shown his true form yet)
also if any of you have seen the book covers of the HBP then as with previous books the cover has something to do with an important part of the story, esspecially the adult version of the cover.
as the adult cover is an OLD potions book it tells me that harry probably did pass his potions exams, and that due to the book being old it could have been owned by the HBP. as harry always has enough to buy his books, has he been robbed or is this a special book??? maybe nape got the Defence against the dark arts job, in order to push harry 2 his full potential in these dark times and tht this book belongs to the new potions teacher, who may be the HBP.
thts it from me,

Every book in HP broaches a new subject, something that has never really been talked about before. My guess is that the HBP is either a completely new character or a character that has been barely mentioned in previous books. We know from Rowling herself that the HBP is neither Harry nor Voldemort (I never thought it would be anyway, those answers are way too obvious for someone as devious as JKR), and I don't think any other major character would quite fit the description.
Personally I think we'll find out more about what happened the night Harry's parents died, and more about Voldemort's past (no real evidence for that last, just a feeling and a hope). Also, there will probably be significant clues to the middle and ending of the book in the first few chapters, so if you want to know what will be happening, pay attention as you start into the book :D
