I was using dumb bells to develop my punching power but have heard this could lead to damaging my elbows and wrists. So I was thinking of switching to those weighted body vests and elastic arm band things. Any recommendations on this.

Do a general full body strength training program and spend your money on some private tuition from a decent boxing coach. This will give you much more payback than buying weighted vests and rubber bands.

A)HEAVY BAG TRAINING-punch,kick,then combination with punch and kicks
B)BODY POWER-quick twitch at the waist, use the center of your body, use whole body for power, raise rear heel for power (it transfers the body weight from one side to the other)never clinch fist til the point of impact,be relaxed and concentrate on your target, gather strength until your muscles come in play, hitting like a snap of a whip,in real hitting feet is always under the body, keep straight line on the lead side of body on hitting, always have legs slightly bent so like a spring when you come up.
hope this helped, and thats what i got from being in boxing
also the secret to power is "TIMING"

I'd have to go with the guys on the fact you'll get much better results doing a general strength program, and training correct technique than using weighted vests and the rubber bands!
The heavy bag is your friend when it comes to power in technique.

I agree. Most of your power comes from your technique, not how much you can curl.
