View Full Version : Williams - Klitchsko

The fights tonight should be interesting.
Hope Danny Williams does the job.
My only concern is the fact that Williams is heavy weighing in at 270lb. Seen him training today and he looked quite slow. Anyways I hope the taller Klitchsko doesnt use him as target practice.
Its also the heaviest title fight with a combined weight of 520lbs.

Looks like thats a distinct possibility, but maybe bulking up and hoping he can absorb the blows will work for Williams

err who didnt see this coming? williams is a nobody, like I said before he got his ass beat by tyson until tyson tore a ligament... maybe williams will realise that he was lucky not to be eaten (heh) by tyson and go back to fighting cans. imagine the damage if he fought someone like lewis (although hes retired) because even klitschko isnt in his league. williams would lose by being brutally murdered.

Klitschko Not in Lennox's league? Klitschko battered the hell out of him for six rounds, how is he not in the same league as him?
I think we all saw this coming, although im proud of williams for going 8 rounds. He looked terrible in the first, then he sorta looked like he was surviving. Its obvious he only got this fight because of tyson, and tyson hasnt been a serious heavyweight threat for a long time now. Danny didnt deserve the fight, but he did pretty well for someone who was outclassed on every level
EDIT: Just noticed my use of foul language in my original post, apologies.

i agree that in the lewis fight, klitschko was winning before the stoppage. personally, i have been really impressed with klitschko and think that he will hold on to the belt alot longer than people expect
i havnt seen the william fight yet, but ive heard he took quite a beating. looking forward to a clip :D

At the end of the Fight, Williams for all his heart, looked like a cross between Chopped Liver and the victim of a gang beating with lead pipes. Not pretty.
He got systematically taken apart by a skillful intelligent and blossoming champion.

I was gonna make a thread about this yesterday but I had to rush out! Danny Williams got what he deserved IMO. All he did before the fight was mouth off about how he was gonna be the champ, about how his conditioning was better and will win it for him. I've read so many interviews with him and he claims he's the best thing since sliced bread mainly because he beat Tyson, 20 years past his prime. I was hoping he would lose, simply because he is a big-head and always has been. He's never been anybody in world boxing, and now Lewis is gone he thinks he can win things. Well there's a huge wake-up call.
Nice to see Ricky Hatton battering his way to the next title :D Great boxer. Knocked him down in the first round! I would LOVE to see him and Gatti fight, but as usual boxing politics gets in the way. Lame.

Tyson is broke and needs the money...i think he just wants to get in the ring and take as little punishment as possible and get out with his millions. He may even fake his knockouts in order to shorten the match. He doesn't train properly and is just looking for easy money.

TBH, before the Tyson fight the best I remembered of Williams was his turning away, walking off and other funny behaviour against Michael Sprott.
In August, he barely scraped the top 5 of British heavyweights! What's he even doing fighting Tyson? There are other fighters more deserving of a shot at Vitali than a nobody who beat an injured, ageing name.
Harsh on Williams? Maybe, but all I've heard for the last month is "experts" trying to say how Williams will batter him etc etc, and then by half past 6, we had the same "experts" claiming that he was never really in it, BUT THEY KNEW HE WOULD BE BEATEN?!?
We went from how Williams will batter Klitschko from corner to corner, to how well he tried. At top level, you have to be succeeding, not trying to hold on for eight rounds when you're beaten after 1.
hell, id go in the ring with tyson for that much!

Danny Williams looked so fat he couldn't even stand properly before he got pummelled. It's useless people saying he shoudl try and outbox Klitschko, you couldn't do that against someone 6ft 7 inches, the only way he would win is by charging in and hooking the hell out of klitschko but he seemed to not take option a or b he chose to stand and get his skull thumped repeatedly. What *profanity removed* was up with his corner, McDonnell trying to tell him things, that other idiot shouting crap at him, what happened to actually analysing the state of play and advising the fighter how they could possibly win, he didn't need motivation he was happy to stand there getting whacked.
Klitschko is interesting, think it is 38 fights, 36 won by knockout and 2 stopped by cuts, he has never been kncked down nevermind knocked out, against Lewis the non boxing fans or fools can say he got beat but he was battering Lewis and he had vision perfect out both eyes just some cuts around the eye which weren't putting blood in his eye and they stoped the fight, well boxing has always been a corrupt sport to a degree. Klitschko clearly can be caught with some big shots but the worrying thing is that when Danny Williams did get his one of two blows in some didn't even move the guy's head, if he can take a hell of a beating then *profanity removed* god knows who will stop him. I just feel though that someone who is lighter than Klitschko and certainly Williams and is very quick on their feet, ie someone in the mould of the old Tyson, can definetly knock Klitschko out assuming he doesn't have a superhuman jaw. Out of interest has anyone seen this Nigerian guy whois US based, wants to fight top ten heavyweight and other day got a nice knockout, took this guy out clean after going for a hook and just returning with a hook with opposite hand, is built like a brick *profanity removed* house and has very quick hands for a big guy.
Anyone see the Miguel Cotto fight last night? What you think?

Read today that lennox lewis is planning to come out of retirement to fight vitali.
I also read that on the Sky Text service. I think he'd be making a big mistake, he never should have fought Klitchsko the first time round and took a beating becasue of it. Lewis should have retired after the Tyson fight even though it was not the 'defining firght' of his career like he claims it to be, Tyson was a shell of his former self when Lewis fought him and so was Holyfield for that matter. Lewis never beat a true great at the top of his game.
In the Klitchsko fight , the cuts Klitchsko suffered flattered Lewis as he was clearly getting the snot beat out of him. On the other hand when Lewis did unleash some devistationg uppercuts, Klitchsko just took them and kept on comming! He has proven that he has an iron chin and that Lewis cannot hurt him. For Lewis to be talking about comming back is shear madness on his part. He says that he can be in shape in 9 months but I think even if he did get in shape by then, his age would have caught up with him anyway and his reflexes would not be the same nor possibly his technique. He would take an even heavier beating in my opinion. He should stay retired and enjoy his earnings and life with his family otherwise if he came back he could end up punch drunk or worse!.

I couldn't agree more. Some people just never learn! Lewis should take one look at Muhammed Ali, then remind himself why he retired in the first place.

I see that in the Article/ Interview with Lennox Lewis in the Scum Newspaper of all places, he critiscises Danny Williams for defeating Tyson 'way past his prime'.
Lol, talk about the pot calling the kettle Afro-Caribbean
This being the same Lennox Lewis that beat Mike Tyson slightly earlier on in his 'way past his prime' phase .
Lewis is a good boxer (although not as good as he is by his own reckoning), but as a neutral observer, I seem to remember his fight with Klitchsko slightly differently than he does.
To him it seemed to be a eulogy to his Boxing Brilliance. But I remember seeing Klitchsko surprising the champion by not falling over, by countering Lewis with good solid boxing skills and hitting him hard and giving him a serious boxing lesson.
I also remember Lewis seeming desperate and skillfully Headbutting him and then rubbing his head in the gashes on Klitchsko's face to open them up.
I didn't neccessarily object to his slightly looser interpretation of the Boxing Rules, just that the way he'd talked it up, we were going to see a exhibition of his Worlds Greatest Boxing Skills to cap a illustrious career, instead I saw a guy winging it and looking a bit flumoxed.
Will Lewis beat Klitchsko in a re-match?
Perhaps, he is skillful and does hit hard, but that would seriously underestimate Klitchsko's skills, which seems to be something that everybody in the Media is doing, saying 'Oh well he's just big and can only knockout guys that are smaller than him', or 'he's mechanical and doesn't have good movement' etc etc blahblahblah.
I don't see these things, I see a clinical fighter who is improving all the time. I see a Heavyweight Champion who most fighters won't want to tussle with.
Is Lewis too old? Well he could get back in shape and have no problems, it's just a question of whether he wants it enough.

I don't even think Lewis is that amazing, he was just around at the right time. He will get beat if they have a rematch, Klitchsko would be even more up for battering him. Excellent points sokklab.

I agree. When I first saw him fight I thought he was really "robot-like" and was only winning because he was throwing tree trunks and he can take a lot of abuse, but as I see him fight more I notice he's getting much less mechanicle and looking more like an "A" class boxer every day.
I don't know if Lewis can beat him or not, but I would sure as hell like to find out ;)

Williams is an odd guy. He's not so much egotistical, but over-confident on a spiritual level. I recall him thanking Allah for his victory over Tyson. (Correct me if he's not Muslim.) Like he feels his God is backing him up more than in reality.
The heavyweight divison is pretty empty right now. That's why Audley Harrison and Danny Williams are getting so much flak. "He's no good, just there's no one better to fight him right now." Kinda like Tommy Gunn in Rocky V, huh?
