i have only sparse judo and hapkido training, but i train in an mma environment. when in a standing clinch, i usually use knee strikes or judo throws/takedowns. i have a high level of success against most people up to about 40 pounds heavier than i am. however, when partnered up against a training partner 55 pounds heavier than i am there is difficulty in executing any throws on him. he uses wrestling takedowns e.g. double-leg, single-leg, double underhook, behind the back. does anyone have any pointers?
i'm also about 5 inches taller than he is.

well, i think i'm gonna have this same problem cause my friend just joined and hes 211 i'm 150 on the dot. hes 6'1-i'm 5-6 so yeah, not good, but from my experiances in the past. i'd say try to stay close but fluid so you can ease in and out of his manuvers.
try to get on his weaker areas, don't stay still. stay on top and if possible when on the ground latch on to a limb. and DON"T let GO. unless u absolutely have to.

Take out the knees, make em look like a flamingo and you've won the fight. :) Of course, I dunno how long you'll be friends after that...

i have no problems with him on the ground, only in the clinch. actually, i have kicked his thighs (not knees) and the strategy worked well. what i really want to do is a outer reaping throw or hip throw on him.
