Quick query, what is the difference between United Kingdom, Great Britain and England. Are they all the one and the same place, or do they refer to different regions?

Respectfully,

Oh absolutely I agree .... I am also involved in studying my own family origins (ancestry) and it really is quite interesting. Although I consider myself an American, the U.S. is a melting pot of other cultures (as are other parts of the world today!)

:D ha, I'm considered "normal" ... tell that to my family!!;)
thanks Cougar

For John...

"The United Kingdom is a country that consists of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In fact, the official name of the country is "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland."
Great Britain is the name of the island northwest of France and east of Ireland that consists of three somewhat autonomous regions: England, Wales and Scotland.

Therefore, England is part of Great Britain, which is part of the United Kingdom. The U.K. includes England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are not countries but the United Kingdom is. The remaining portion of the island of Ireland (that which is not the U.K.'s Northern Ireland) is an independent country called the Republic of Ireland (Eire)."

Wow! Thanks Deb,

Just call me Bruce! You defiantly know more about the geo-political aspects of that region than I do. In future Ill be a bit more careful who I call a pom.

P.S. I cant help being a Kangaroo loving, beer swilling convict.

See, someone does do their research. As an all American person of Native American, Austrian, Dutch descent, I was quite taken aback when my instructor asked a student at a Black Belt interview how he "felt about being the first black Black Belt". I had known this kid since he was 8 and I had never looked at him like that. I still don't believe it was said. A person is a person, the only thing that sets us apart is our indiviuality. I know chinese people who have no idea how to do kung fu.
Perhaps if the question was worded different, I wouldn't have taken it as a little bit ..........................?

they say derogatory statements about each others heritage and laugh like their joking but you can tell there's a level of seriousnes to their voices. It's still funny I think old rascist people are funny. Ignorance is plain stupid unless it's on the face of a wrinkly senial old man!

Today at work a girl was describing a group of people. I don't think she really realizes what she said. There was my husband and I, 2 mexicans, a couple of black women, and about 5 Americans. Jeeez!
