Does arm wrestling do any good? I mean, does it, at all, determine who is the stronger one. I know, it's all in the wrist, and who starts first, or whatever, but does it show anything?

Sure it shows something.
It shows who is best at arm wrestling.

I don't like arm wrestling... Tintin beat me :(
He also regularly hits me with a big wooden sword, I'm thinking of starting up a MAist support group :D

Does arm wrestling strength reflect overall strength?
I'd say it probably does!
Although training just for arm wrestling wouldn't be of great benefit to MA's...

Last year they had arm wrestling at SENI 02(martial arts trade show and festival), i think there may have been a challenge on.
Don't know if it is there this year.

Little me? Beat freeform at arm wrestling? Oh yes, I forgot about that. A victory for the wee guys of the world!
And about the wooden sword thing - freeform got his revenge when he managed to break the end off my bokken with his this morning. Its a scary sight seeing a big lump of wood fly away when you're supposed to be using it to stop yourself being stabbed!

Still its a good way to settle who is the stronger.
BUT
Different test of strength use different muscle groups and you might be comparitivly better with you leg muscles than you upper body.
I like it though as its a good ego booster and laugh for people! - especially when a girl was the winner over a mate! - she was 5'7 and only 8st as well!

Oh, so it also determines who has the stronger wrist right?

Technique and length of arm comes into it as well

ON average, which one wins, the one with the long, or short arm?

having shorther arms is an advantage since you can force your opponent to straighten out his arm more and loose a lot of power. There was a wiry little girl in my old school that could take guys with twice her strength because of this.

So what's the conclusion here? Arm wrestling does squat?

I came across a book on Traditional Inuit wrestling that showed several versions of "arm wrestling" which where a part of training that I would have to say would have value in practicing.
Sit on the floor facing each other, legs out. Right leg over his left, his right over your left. Lef hand goes on the ankle, right arms hook at the elbow. Without jerking or twisting the object is to pull the other guys arm straight or pull him in towards you.
Variations include hooking at the wrist and fingers (Hurts!)
Makes a good strength game.
Another arm wrestling one is to sit in a circle and grab your hands together (set a grip or let everyone pick their own) so that the elbows are linked and everyones arms create a chain. Now break the chain without seperating your arms. If the seperate your "Out", continue until only two people remain and you can't complete a loop.
There are a few other wrestling games that I picked up out of that book that work other things if anyone is interested I'll continue...
