View Full Version : Feet - How Far Apart
Punchy

I have heard that some boxers train with a string tied between their ankles to stop them moving their feet too wide apart. (A wide deep stance tends to slow you down, which is a problem).
Does anyone have any experience with this? If so, how far apart should you be keeping your feet tied?

about shoulder width i think. but it depends on your "style" of punching. ask your boxing coach.

shoulder width is just about right. I used to practice like that 4-5 yrs back. it's good method...
and there are other stepping methods from boxing which you can do...
I'll ask my boxer freind about this..

yeah, that's called "grabbing ground" wherein you take a solid stable stance to produce power into you punches. you can't do it too often because it makes you slow on your feet.

If your feet are to wide apart, then you begin to lose power in your punch. Your footwork also suffers and becomes slow.
And if you have your feet to close together, then your likely to lose your balance and your punching will suffer.
The normal recommendation is to have your feet shoulder width apart which gives you a firm foundation.
