Hi guys,
my head is busted trying to get a laptop (client) running win2000 to internet connection share with the host desktop on Win XP. The XP machine is the one with a Telewest broadband connection.
Both machines can see each other and transfer files, I've run the Wireless internet connection wizard and the normal LAN IC wizard on the host but still no joy.
The network is two Belkin USB bluetooth adapters.
Any ideas?

PS. I tried to set my self up with the Easy-tek site under the same username, just for this very problem :D , but never got an email back? I can still log in but it doesn't let me post?

Hi
I've just manually authorised your Easy-tek acount :D
If you are not running a router you will probably have to register the MAC Address of BOTH machines with Telewest/Blueyonder.
If you ARE using a router then the MAC of the router is the only one you need register.

Hi Yoda,
Alternatively.....
For my no doubt terrible sins in a past life I am a tester by trade... having a rough idea of your IT back ground I have to point out the glaring differences between the developer ilk and us streamlined battle honed analysts.
You come stomping in from on up high with lofty router talk, your NIC this, MAC that....
I just relaxed opened the pores and let the spirit of IT knowledge whirl around and squeeze itself into the pea that is my brain...
Used the old faithful - reboot (on the XP machine - and try: Programs/accessories/communications/Network Setup Wizard again... (didn't have a floppy the first time and thought it would be do-able without, then tried it again and it hung, then rebooted and tried it again and it worked, made the floppy perfectly. I'm male and work in IT, no instructions required and no real need to sleep.)
Yes it's taken me three hours...
yes the toys are now back in the pram...
and yes... she's ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This reply is from the laptop!!!!! :D
Thanks for the reply and the easy-tek set up, feel free to stick this on easy-tek as i couldn't find anything on bluetooth on the site yet, or for that matter a decent explanation of how to get a bluetooth network set up anywhere - could have just been me though, I've got to get up in 6 hours
cheers
Tim

Sharing the Connection
Once you have successfully set up the Blue Tooth 'connection', you need to set up Internet Connection Sharing on the XP PC.
1. Open Network Connections on the XP PC. (Click Start, click Control Panel, click Switch to classic view, and then click Network Connections.)
2. Click the connection to be shared, and under Network Tasks, click Change settings of this connection.
3. On the Advanced tab, select the Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection check box.
Cheers. :)

^^ what he said ^^
plus XP service pack 2 installs it's own driver for the USB bluetooth hardware, which means the company's software who made the hardware doesn't work on XP - so you need to go into the device manager, left click on the bluetooth hardware icon, choose 'update driver' and the company's driver will be sitting there ready to be used instead of the XP one.
It was fun trying to work that one out...

Or the Laptop for the previously thrown about toys for that matter... But, yes, all is working and the laptop can travel about 9 metres away, things get sketchy after that

This is due to the fact that microsoft basically threatened the bluetooth providors by not licensing their drivers. Much chewing of keyboard over that one, I can tell you.
So after I removed SP2 from ALL of my home network ( 6 machines ) I looked into it and lo found the prob and reinstalled

as for 100m, I am installing one of these in a kit car with a PC, and found hte limit really around 50m due to external influences....next door turning on a vacuum etc. Also if you are in the UK, you arent actually supposed to use your wireless network outside...Didnt tell me that when I bought it did they?
