ok so ive got this horrible problem when i box. it is that i drop my guard and drop and lean my head forward. Also when being punched at i wince and its like my eyes are closed after the first punch connects or when i start punching my opponent and he throws back at me. is thier any drills to help me with these problems or is it just being in the ring more that will do it?

A common thing for newbie boxers. Its just reflex action, your face is just trying to protect itself (by scrunching up as much as possible).
Itll go after a few good hits to the face.
In class, we get 2 guys, one pummels the hell out of the other while he defends as much as possible, then vice versa.
Get used to it eventually...

yup. like most martial arts, you have to overcome the reflexes that are designed to "save" you and develope the so called "fighting reflex". it comes with time and practice and much much pain.
pain is not our master, it is our teacher!

I once also had this problem. The way i helped minimize it is by working in close range on a heavy bag, building confidence when having to perform in such a closed position... Also working with a friend helped. Just doing light sparring not trying to kill eachother.
Really, its one of those things which begin to fade over time. You become more confident in your skill, you get used to having punches thrown at you, and you begin to slowly adapt to this and your body becomes used to it.

It's true. I always drop my guard before because my arms get too heavy after some time. Then with it's heaviness and also due to fatigue, my body would follow. It's much like presenting yourself as a punching bag to your opponent.
The answer, train, train, train. Increase your stamina, build your strenght, and increase your awareness. :D

Yup, I caught myself doing that today with some drills. The drills were slow, so I forced myself to keep my eyes open. It just takes time.

Like the others said....this will fade away in time. I remember the first time I sparred with any real contact, I kept getting tagged with a stiff jab right in the nose. It was aweful and I remember saying to myself..."How do boxers stand this?" As time went by I got hit in the nose less and less but when I did get hit it was less annoying the the previous time.
Working through the pain and the flinching is just a natural part of the game.
