Ok folks another new section for you Arcade (http://www.martialartsplanet.com/forums/proarcade.php?action=arcade&session=&game=). Just a little bit of fun so get in there and add your high scores :D Unfortunately there seems to be issues with browsers other than Internet Explorer stopping your high scores being logged which we cant resolve at the moment, our apologies to anyone not using IE.

You have to be a registered member to play the arcade games.

Hehe, I see where you are getting at but you could try including some of the better stuff like the silat games or the tower of death ones which you might prefer...

You still are no#1 with your other score. I think Jack's first post should be read "Only works with Internet Explorer" - Mozilla is based on Netscape code (or the other way round, depending on how you view these things).

This is a fault with the software that runs the Arcade, which is still in beta testing. The author is hopeful that this can be fixed in the final version. We did feel that it was better to have in it's present form than wait an unknown number of months for a final version.

YODA

I remember a game called Darius in about 1988 - underwater shootemup accross 3 screens. First game at £1 a go - outrageous.

I think we need a 'best classic game of all time' poll. Any suggestions on what should be in it? My top 10 (not in order)would be :

Lunar Lander
Defender (Williams)
Moon Patrol (mainly for the funky music)
Scramble
Frogger
Tetris
Outrun
Donkey Kong
1942
Hyper Sports

Or MA related games:
Karate Champ (still the best)
Shinobi
Street Fighter (1!)
Double Dragon
Rygar

Cain,

calm down old chap! MA games are coming, although they will not be linked to the high score table at first. Also coming very soon is a strategy game similar to othello and a top down space shooter game.

My post was just asking about the top arcade games of all time - do you have one?

YODA
29-Mar-2003, 08:46 AM
Don't forget that Tank game- can't remember the name. Made of green straight lines where you shot at things as they appeared on the horizon - you had two handles to pull & push to manoeuvre.

hongkongfuey
29-Mar-2003, 08:54 AM
Yoda - Battlezone - top call.

Hexagon is now there for all the intellectuals on the site.

Cain

Ok, I am calm :D

well, dunno about a top ten list but there was this game I remember from the oldies, not sure if anyone remembers it, it was called something like spartan or something....a side scrolling game, I used to play it on the video game machines...

|Cain|

Tintin
29-Mar-2003, 09:43 AM
I remember the piles of 10p's you used to take to the arcades. Unfortunately in those days a 10 pence coin was about the size of a wagon wheel!

Some of the classics I'd have to add would be:

Rampage
Chase HQ
Afterburner

And MA related:

Kung Fu master
King of boxer
Yie ar kung fu (don't know if this made the arcades or was just for home machines)

And I probably could have bought a street fighter 2 machine for the amount of money I spent on it.

hongkongfuey
29-Mar-2003, 09:58 AM
Cain,

did you have a guy in armour and could strike either high, low or middle?

Tintin - Kung Fu Master - what a classic. Yie ar Kung Fu started in the arcades - also a classic : http://coinop.org/g.aspx/100214/Yie_Ar_Kung_Fu.html

Cain
29-Mar-2003, 10:26 AM
Ya, sort of, the first lavel had a boss where the bad guy had a black stick [not Yoda :D ]

And the second or third level had some seahorses kind of enemies...don't remember much, must have been about 8 years since I played it :)

|Cain|

Andy Murray
29-Mar-2003, 10:26 AM
The earliest MA game I remember was a Karate one;

Two joysticks pulled in various connections gave you various strikes. If you went through the matches, every so often you got to perform a timed break, with a progressively more scantily clad toon girl in the background.

Sums up Karate :D

Commando
Dragons Lair
Galaxian
Galaga
Scramble
Phoenix
Lunar Lander
Double Dragons

Ah, misspent youth!

Tintin
30-Mar-2003, 03:49 PM
I've done the taunting thing to get things going, now I'm doing the quiet, methodical thing to slowly take over! I hate Tetris though, and hexxagon is annoying. 3 all though, hmm, do you reckon we could get it pay-per-view for a title fight? :D

hongkongfuey
31-Mar-2003, 12:31 PM
I somehow think no-one would be interested apart from me and you. I love Tetris, although I agree that Hexxagon is highly annoying.

Dude! I'm a student the show me your taxes means give me your hard earn tax dollars.

What I meant was can you is there any good reason why they are in flash 6??

In case you're wondering, HKF is referring to the days of our youth when we were a couple of gung ho cadets on an Air Force Base camp. In the canteen (or NAFI or whatever it's called) they had a few games. One was karate champ, so we were chuffed about that and wanted to get the high score. Next to the karate champ game was a pinball machine. Playing the pinball machine were two huge, mean looking dudes with sandy coloured berets. Anyone familiar with the British army will know what that means!

Anyway, I'd heard that the game got harder as the high score increased, so, to make it easier, you should pull the plug and then plug it back in again to reset the high score.

The big, mean dudes were playing pinball next to the karate champ game.

Two plug sockets.

Two plugs...

I'm sure you can guess what happened next.

My short, teenage life flashed before my eyes!

So let this be a lesson to all of you that are gunning for highscores! ;)
