Everyone gets nervous. You need to try to mentally prepare yourself for what is to come. If the time comes, and you still don't feel you are ready, tell your coach.

As 1one says everyone gets nervous so dont worry about it. Most would be more concerned if you weren't.

Use your nervous energy positively.

First of all, welcome to MAP and the boxing section ;)

Secondly, everyone gets nervous. Even some of the most talented fighters on earth. Its completely natural.

If you don't feel that you are ready for a fight, then don't do it. I personally don't believe there's a point going into a fight if your only going into it half heartedly because your unsure about weather or not your ready.

I am in the same situation. My coach wants me to enter a fight, but i don't feel im capable at the moment. I'm sure he will understand if you dont believe your ready for it.

I know how you feel- I hate even talking in front of large groups of people, let alone fighting in front of them. I haven't started competing yet (boxing, kickboxing, sub grappling, or MMA- I competed a little when I did kung fu), but when I do I'm sure all probably be throwing up if I didn't already pass out.

Just think about this though: once you do it, you won't have to worry about it again. This applies to many things in life, but competing can be a huge boost of confidence. Compare people who fight in Pride, K-1, UFC, etc to a lot of normal people. The pro fighters are usually very self-confident (sometimes over-confident :p ) and secure, while many people who never face their fears are insecure etc.

I'm glad we could be of help :) and no, 16 isn't 'abit late' to start competing :D Its a good age! I know a few 15 / 16 year olds who are getting into competing.

Most of the things in life that I have done I wasn't ready for. If your coach says you have talent and thinks you are ready, you should try it. Worse that can happen is you lose, nothing more (or maybe a concusion :p). Then you just train more, and do it again. :)
