There seems to be a general consensus for heavy metal to get us training, but which band would you pick first?

Had to go with Linkin Park. There music (to me) has more raw energy. Rage was my fave, but since they split ( and formed Audioslave ) their music has lost that anger and edge it had when Zack was in the band.

But you haven't voted kurohana!

I had to go with Sepultura, hard decision, any would be great for training. But there pure heavy fast anger! grrrrrrh kill, slash, crush, maim, smash, tickle! ;)

I just voted for Sepultura too. Theres a lot of good bands out there though. I would have voted for Monster Magnet if they'd been on the list.

Korn all the way!

Saw them at SECC last sept. Wicked!

'Here to stay' was amazing live.

'Got the Life' to end with ticker-tape type stuff falling from sky. Never felt so happy in a long time!

P.s. Would have voted for Prodigy if been there!

Korn are great, nearly picked em myself. Would have for the car!

Sadly theres only 10 answers max for multiple choice :( Had about 50 bands on the list, so I just left the bigger well established bands on there. Some fantastic new metal bands coming through now, such as HED-Planet & Unloco, not very well known YET though.

Actually Planet were supporting Korn or Rammstien I can't remember which gig it was ( too many beer shots :) ).

They were good, but not as good as how 'Puddle of Mud' sucked!

Heh! :D

Eventhough I like most the bands up there, I'd have to pick Metallica (old school ..... Justice, Master of Puppits, and Ride the Lightning albums). I've been a fan of Metallica seen I was 11. I am 28 now. I saw them in concert and it was the best show I have ever seen, and I been to many concerts.

My Next pick is a tie between SOD and Linkin Park. They are both raw and heavy bands. Very talented bands. Limp Bizkit would be a third pick.

I like many others not on the list, but I picked those because they were on the list.

Metallica is the band I've been a fan of longer that any other! :) Not quite as long as yourself though!

Although in recent years my support has faded a little. Lets hope the next album will put them back at the forefront of metal, they say it will be faster and harder!

Favourite albums are Puppets, Lightning and the Black album!

Metallica definately ! Last time I saw them, we ended up running from the stadium for our lives ... the stage set fell apart and then one of the roadies caught fire right in front of us (we were down at the front) .... Ok - Ok I know it was all part of the stage show now ! :D

Have to say Metallica myself (out of the choices given). Have seen them live twice now. The first was at Manchester about 6 years ago, probably the same one as above. The second time was at the Big Day Out in Milton Keynes, when I got to go back stage and meet James and Jason. Lars just walked passed us, but Jason was cool. Pity he has left now, he always put everything into it. Being backstage meant I missed Marilyn Manson so hope to rectify that next time he is touring.

Slayer would have been a good second from the above choices, though what about other great ones. Megadeth, Maiden, Sabbath, Pantera.

I think I have to pick Justice as my fav Metallica album.

I like their new stuff, but I have to agree that my "insterest" faded a little with the Load albums. Then I got into them again when Garage Inc came out. Very heavy albums. I hate the S&M album  I have every album they put out except that one.

I hope they get the "Metallica edge" back. I liked Jason as the bass player. He did put his all into it. But maybe with another bass player, they'd get it back.

I'm shocked Lars would act like that, but I'm not suprised for some reason LOL. He looks "snooty" at times on TV. But then again, I never met the guy face to face. I just saw them live.

Coolness to you too! :D

I'll have to listen to Justice for All again, I always found it a bit harsh sounding compared to Puppets and lightening that sounded more melodic, but thats just my take on it......

I did like the Load albums too, some decent tracks, but if I hadn't already been a metallica fan I might not have took much notice

Bring on the new album, they know they have to make this one count! ;)

They were on my first list, but amoung the 40 I took out to get down to the 10 for the poll :( There just not big or current enough to be poll contenders ;)

Heard a few seconds on the site, sounded like the Puppets album era.

Has to be Slipknot from that list but for raw agressive training music you can't beat Pantera......Cowboys from Hell....Vulgar Display......need I say more??? :)

From the listed bands I dislike Korn, Linkin Park, Slipknot, and Limp Bizkit - Some of their music may be alright for the emotion but the power chords get boring . Nirvana are alright but not AMAZING.

Sepultura and Soulfly are great - Max Cavalera :D

I am going to side with Darzeka about Tool - listening to this music gives you crazy ideas about life, such as being the center of existance.. :D. Seriously good stuff.

I like all of the other bands there, in addition Soulfly, Tool, Pantera, and In Flames - great metal band!

Good! I hope that Metallica is back!

Yes, PGM. That's why I like the Justice album. It was different than the rest of their albums, but still very heavy. I love it. It's a very unique album for Metallica. It had it's own sound from the rest of the albums. But Master Of Puppets was straight metal ;) I also love that one.

BlackRaven

Lars has said in an interview on their site that 1) their are no ballads on the album. 2) he doesn't think there are any radio friendly tracks on it.

OOhh. Roll on release date (I think it is July 8).

"I hate you Napster. I'm taking my Metallica ball home!" rants.

After his involvment with the napster case. This is from a guy that was heard in an interview agreeing with Hetfield that

"YEAH we used to make mix tapes from our friends all the time!"

Hypocrite! :D

I agree Tosh.

Lars was against people getting their music free. But how did they make it in the first place? Free dubs of their music! I love Metallica as a metal band, but they have their piorities wrong. The fans should come first, not the fame ;)

Seems like Lars can't make his mind up. He says the new album will not have any encrption on it. Is he now saying it is ok to copy their new album.

Metallica have always advocated bootlegging their gigs. What they disagreed with was fans copying their actual albums, which I can sort of understand.

To be honest, I can see groups in the future releasing their albums free on the net, and making their money from touring and merchandising.

re: new Metallica album - June 10th. This is from their official site

Metallica's new album, St. Anger, will include a free bonus DVD featuring the band playing all 11 songs (yes, 11 songs) from the album in a live setting. Recording began last Friday, March 21st, in the rehearsal space at HQ with the band performing six songs....the first with Rob for the cameras... unless of course, you count amateur Swedish home videos. There will be no fancy s**t, just Metallica doing what they do best, kicking your ass, and don't worry, the CD will be regularly priced, we just wanna throw in some extra free s**t for you guys!

Directing the project is Wayne Isham ("Enter Sandman", "Sad But True", "I Disappear", "Cunning Stunts", "S&M"). Wayne and his crew captured the awesome vibe and thunderous new tunes. The next five songs for the DVD will be shot soon.

Hmm if anybody is into weird, pscyho, electronic music designed to relax you and expand your mind etc. etc. then check out the "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" album by Aphex Twin, and anything by The Future Sound of London. Orbital and Juno Reactor are also amazing.

On that list it would have to be System, Rage or Nirvana.

Metallica were great until they got soft and then became a bunch of short haired hypocrit lawyers. It'd be nice if they did get back to the old sounds.

And Tool are quite simply one of the greatest bands in existence.

And as for pump up and work out music, try some real hard stuff like Morbid Angel, Nile, Children of Bodom or one of the greatest and now sadly demised, Fear Factory.

:)

I can't stand Morbid Angel or Nile for working out to. Even if the songs are meant sincerely, hearing "UNAS SLAYER OF GODS" roared down the mic is just too cheesy to motivate me. :(

system of a down are gods too..............once again no such thing

1> NIRVANA - innovators, awesome song writing ability, what a voice, what a drummer!

2> RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE - probably the best live act I have ever witnessed! Every riff gets your head moving!

3> SYSTEM OF A DOWN - crazy mental stuff but I love it! Can't wait to see them live at the Reading Festival this year! :D

Well thats my opinion anyways....
