We are feeling the crunch here in the States....
Well, I spent $1.75 a gallon today for gasoline.... an all time high for me but this is definitely something to think about...
So, you think that gallon of gasoline is expensive, huh??

(sorry I don't have the $$ in pounds for our members in the UK!!)

Diet Snapple 16oz for $1.29 = $10.32 per gallon
Ice Tea 16oz for $1.19 = $9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20oz for $1.59 = $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16oz for $1.25 = $10.00 per gallon
Pint of milk 16oz for $1.59 = $12.72 per gallon
STP Brake Fluid 12oz for $3.15 = $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6oz for $8.35 = $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4oz for $3.85 = $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7oz for $1.39 = $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5oz for $0.99 = $84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER (excuse the pun ;) ......
Evian water 9oz for $1.49 = $21.19 per gallon, $21.19 FOR WATER!!

So next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on Nyquil, or Scope, Whiteout or WATER for that matter!!!
** I got this via email ... really puts things in perspective don't it??)

It's kinda funny to look at things that way, but oh so true. So it goes with that old saying "There's sunshine behind every cloud." Well...something like that. And If I just made that up I am copy righting it!

Ive never thought of it like that before but thats kinda nuts. You can get a 24oz water and a gas station for a buck and a half then go to the food mart and buy a gallon for .99c. Hummmm something isnt right about that.

LOL. Everything is right about it. You're not paying for the product at the gas station. You're paying for the convenience :)

Another way of looking at it, though, is found in this article: http://www.johnshepler.com/articles/costliving.html

Kinda brings things into a little better perspective.

Lemme think, how much does a litre cost over here. Oh yes, about 79p. That's a litre, not a gallon. A litre bottle of coke for example costs about the same.

Expensive, sorry Ive gotta laugh. But in the UK at 79p a liter adds up to about £3.55 thats probably about $5.68 dollars (for 1 UK gallon) and about £2.99/$4.77 (for 1 US gallon).

This is just a normal price for us Brits :-(

Is a US gallon smaller than a UK gallon Doc?

johndoch

Yeah 1 US Gallon = 0.833 Gallons (approx).

But its still $1.75 a gallon in the US compared to our $4.77!!! :(

That 2.7 times more we pay, talk about being greased up! :(

And it will get dearer if this war starts. I think its about time that the western govermrnts start to seriously look at sustainable energy sources. Although they probably dont do it because there is not much money to be made in sustainable resources.

Hey KC,

Is gas still at $1.75 back where your at?? Here on the westcoast, on my side of the freeway, it was @ $2.09 and across the freeway it's @ $2.15 a gallon. I'd be more than happy to pay $1.75 a gallon especially with my commute to work. Then again, I'd hate to actually think what your gas prices are normally like if the $1.75 is higher than what you are used to paying.

But I buy milk by the gallon, at a commissary, and that way it's 25 cents cheaper than gasoline.

johndoc makes a good point. Taxmen. How much of the price of gas is actually the tax on gas? I read last week that the state tax in Maryland is .22 cents a gallon. And the government wants to RAISE it. What is this war really about? Bottom line? I don't know, but seeing things like the proposed tax increase, and seeing an article in the Washington Post that business's are starting to bid for post war contracts in Iraq (supposedly part of the re-building process)... it makes you wonder.
