Hi all,

I am just moving to Glasgow this weekend and was wondering if there is any decent martial arts classes in the area. I will be staying near glasgow green if that helps :).

I have done a bit of martial arts before so im not looking for beginner classes. I am looking for something along the lines of kickboxing.

Does anyone have any ideas? Im looking for something fairly close....so anything north and west of the centre is really unfeasible.

If there isnt any classes in the centre what other choices do I have?

Thanks for your time and any help!:)

There is a Karate Shop at the back of the Savoy Centre (Sauchiehall St). The chap in there keeps a folder of different styles in the area!

You want Light Continuous Kickboxing, ar Full Contact to Thai?

Yeah I have atually been there before when i got my pads last time! Never realised they kept a list, thats brilliant.

As for contact....hmmmm.....Well light contact is good excercise but not really what im after. Then again full contact sounds good but I dont want to go home with a broken nose every night.

Its been a while since I last did any martial arts so im not exactly too sure. I definetly want to be sparring with people a lot but I dont really want to be stepping into a ring and fighting. Thai does'nt really interest me but I used to do kickboxing and some korean kempo and enjoyed both of them.

Both of those classes had a really good warm up, stretching programme at the start and then moved up to technique and then sparring on mats with your pads, gum shield etc. Same sort of thing im after I think.

Any thoughts?
Cheers :)

Hi there,

As yet I have not joined a martial arts place. I did see however, a flyer for one at the gorbals lesiure centre. I will go back to investigate soon hopefully.

I was considering joining over the summer, so perhaps Ill see what they are offering then.

If you have any other ideas, or have actually been to the gorbals one, just give me a shout.

Thanks
Chris

Check out my art, Shorinji Kempo, (http://www.gcsk.org.uk/) if you have a chance. The branch master, Tony Leith, is a good guy.
