It's everywere... here..ebudo... blackbelt mag.

I need to go to that school, the I train between the crack den and check-cashing place.
Who do you people think is out there? Guys who spend all day training at fighting at there "cribs".
Come on guys..
WE are the people who toil in the dojo all day.
Please guys stop the war mongering.

I sort of understand sort of what they are talking about, but they speak of "street fighters" like they are some mythical powerful fighters with tech. that you just can't beat.
MA's spend hours talking and training to beat "these" people.

Yes, fear us 14 year old str337 fighting experts! No, but really a street fighter is nothing more than a punk jackass with nothing better to do than start trouble for you, and usually, yes, they are kids. Any way why ya'll always picking on us "kids"?

If you watch the last Rocky movie (I think it's 5) the style Stallone uses against Tommy Gunn is pure street fighter..

A street fighter isent exactly the ass who starts trouble, just the guys who get into a number of fights outside the gyms and dojo's. I'm sure I've seen just as many MAist think they had something cause of training, didnt really, but doesnt mean i would say martial artists are kids who couldnt hack it earning it with thier fists alone. So street fighting really is just a anything goes way of fighting, although any trained boxer could probably tear this to pieces like most ma styles if they teach fighting and not competition winning. I'm just trying to break this one sided attack since i used to get in many street fights, so im assuming i could fall into that character but to me only says i never got formal training and nothing more, prefer saying im a kickboxer or martial artist. Most who claim this title are kids who do just start trouble, but was just trying to break up the argument. Also do not confused street fighters and wannabe's, if others call you that its a show of respect of winning in fights outside the rings and rule systems, wannabe's are the majority who claim it though.

Now that the thread has been re-directed to the original question  :woo:
Any fight that occurs in the street = street fight, ergo any person(s) involved in such are street fighters.
The stereotype of the "streetfighter" probably comes from labeling people who have learnt how to fight on the street. I'm sure there are probably "professional" bare knucke fighters out there, which IMO equates to the same thing. These are the sorts of people that I would call "streetfighters" and I would respect their experience of fighting, not the title.

But arent those people usually armed? Is it then senible to think that we can just "use martial arts" to defeat these people (who are also usually not by themselves)?

Personally I have no idea. I've never come across such individuals, at least not out there. What I have learnt is that you generally find out about these people by reputation, as I've never heard anyone advertising themselves as a "streetfighter".
It wouldn't be a huge leap of imagination to assume that they would be armed, but then shouldn't we assume this of everyone?
Good to see you again John.

You all remember street fighter, maybe that solved and explains it all! Well unless your skilled enough you should avoid those kinda fights but well most people cant take more than one or two solid strikes, but that varies from martial artist to martial artist. Usually if their armed you should try and remain relaxed and do your best? or hit first? Can't really say to much specifically, to various a subject to pinpoint any one answer. Well any multiple opponents is alright for me, but armed makes it a bit more interesting, in any fight i usually am focused enough to make an attack that wether i get hit on the way isent a problem. Once again, consult street fighter the movie for further advice ;p
