What did you all make of the Daredevil film?
Personally I thought it was ok, but the character wasn't the Daredevil I read about when i was a kid, Matt Murdock never threw temper tantrums and never felt sorry for himself.
I thought the fight scenes were good, in that they were very confusing, like a real fight!
Tell me what ya think!

I don't read comics so I have nothing to compare the character to. I thought the film was ok - some of the CGI was a bit lame but the film was ok.

I liked it, but mainly because I thought it put in some details from the comic that would have been easy to leave out--like Elektra getting killed with her own sai by Bullseye. And, of course, I also liked it because Jennifer Garner is ****ing hot.
I couldn't say much about the realism of the fight scenes, since 3 inch diameter shaken, let alone pieces of a paperclip, don't make deadly throwing weapons; but I did like the teeter-totter fight. Kinda reminded me of Jet Li in that Tai Chi movie, up on the nets. All very well shot and entertaining.
I need to find a CGI-jutsu sensei somewhere, to teach me that stuff.

Did people think it was a dark film or a light hearted? Half the people I talk to say light hearted and funny, the other half say it was quite dark

I'd say its pretty dark and a little different from the comic book.
Colin Farrell is awesome! He steals every scene!
Imagine killing a man with paper clip .....wow the workplace wouldn't be the same!
All of Jennifer Garner's training and fighting paid off!! ... and of course, Ben was quite believeable especially in the blind scenes!
Stop throwing peanuts at me!!!!
Oh btw.... stay for the very end of the movie ... I didn't and missed the bonus scene! ( )

Argh! There was a bonus scene after the credits? Damn! ****! ****! I'll have to see it again...
No great tragedy; you're right about Colin Farrel too, he's got quite the screen presence.
Spike--I'd say it's darker than the comic book--Daredevil starts out a bit less inclined to rehabilitate criminals than he ever was in Marvel, and there are shocking bits, like Jennifer Garner with a sai through her stomach--but it still ends fairly happily. More of an up note than Spiderman, actually, in my opinion

If you liked Bullseye, you NEED to go and see it again!

I though the whole tone of the film was much darker than Spiderman but I guess it did kind of have a happier ending. Darker than Spiderman, not as dark as Batman

Overall, I liked it. Actually, I think the characterization was pretty well done. The temper tantrums and self-doubt weren't there when I read them as a kid either. I was no longer collecting comics when DD found something to fear, but I remember hearing about it from some friends who were still into comics. I think the self-doubt and stuff was actually in the comics during that time, but I don't know for sure since I wasn't reading the comics by that time.

Marvel pioneered self-doubting superheroes. Pretty sure it was there... I haven't read Daredevil all my life, but someone dedicated to the law who's on-and-off girlfriend is an assassin's gotta have one or two seething internal conflicts, right?

Yeah, there was doubt but never self pity!
Also, I'm miffed they left out Stick, his mentor in the MA's. It would have been cool seeing Stick go to town with his Bo!

Yeah. I was a little miffed about Stick, too. I was really looking forward to seeing who they cast and what he had.
But, overall, I thought it was a good movie and played true to the spirit of the comics.

I thought the film was okay, as far as I know Electra was killed at the end of the first comic story she appeared in. It was dark in some parts but far lighter in others with some big tongue in cheek moments. I.e. the honey line in the cafe. pure cheese.
I liked the way they did his radar sense and was disapointed that stick was missing.
I think spiderman was a far better film though.

Spiderman was the better film, though if they do a DD2 I'm still hoping for some Stick flashbacks.
I still think that that hyperbaric chamber thingy was far to weird and turned him into a super freak!

When I was a nipper, I used to spend my 10p pocket money on DC comics (when I was eight, they were!). If only I'd kept them, they'd be worth a fortune, along with every issue of 2000AD
My favourite characters were Flash Gordon and DareDevil.
I haven't really enjoyed any of the Superhero films, and while I thought some of the MA choreography was good, the film was very dissapointing, and I'd have enjoyed a Jackie Chan picture with a Millionth of the budget a whole lot more.

Ah, but DD was a Marvel product not a DC one! (I am a complete anorak! ;) )
When I was a kid DC's were 55p that must make Andy a Gizillion years old!!! :D
Please don't hurt me!
Mike, if you were to cast someone as Stick, what actor would you use?

Putting things in perspective, the 'Dandy' and the 'Beano' were 2p each, and I remember Mar's Bar's as being 8p (i'm sure they tasted totally different too). You could buy a Caramel wafer for 1/2p at the school Tuck Shop too.
Marvel and DC, yeah I'd forgotten the difference. Sooooooo long ago.
If you're an Anorak FF, you'll be able to tell me which stories got transferred to 2000AD, when Starlord got bought out after about 9 issues?

Dan Inosanto, of course :)
Actually, the best stick man I've ever seen is GM Cacoy Canete, but I'm not sure he can act.
Guro Dan can do both (and has). For a couple of notable fight scenes with Guro Dan in them, check Game of Death, Out for Justice (he was "Sticks" in the bar fighting Seagal), The Chinese Stuntman (he's actually got a sizable role in this one).
Failing Guro Dan, though, I would have to go with Mako.

Andy, 2000AD was around issue 600ish when I was a kid. Although I think Strontium Dogs was one of the stories that originated in Starlord ;)
Then I were a lad Mars Bars were about 12p, Cans of coke about 15p and 1P chews were a lot bigger. I remember 1/2p coins, those were thoughs things we'd find anc couldn't do anything with because they weren't legal anymore :D

"I still think that that hyperbaric chamber thingy was far to weird and turned him into a super freak!"
I actually thought that made a fair bit of sense, someone who`s senses are that acute sleeeping in a sensory deprivation tank

Yeah, but in the book he developed an immense level of control, also he became really attuned to New York, so that when he moved to LA he went mental for an hour trying to control all the different sensory input.
Jesus, I am really sad!
