Christian Rock

Am i the only one to see the irony in the fact that christian rock is so clearly the music of the devil. I was subjected to some the other day in an english lesson (don't ask), never have i so wanted to destroy all forms of sound and cut off my ears with rusty coat hangers sharpened to a dull point. Please somebody ban it now.

P.S. i realise now that this is more a rant than a thread but please, somebody, start a campaign or something!

I'm with you, man. Look at the timeline of rock music...Robert Johnson, so the legend goes, sold his soul to the devil for his musical talents and helped to shape the blues as we know it today. His songs were covered by The Rolling Stones, Cream and a ton of other bands and artists who helped go on to shape rock music as we know it today. Beelzebub is at the core of rock music. Christian rock is a vile perversion. ;) :D

In all seriousness, there have been some decent bands with a vaguely Christian bent, like King's X or Galactic Cowboys. However, Galactic Cowboys split up a couple of years ago, and the lead singer/bassist for King's X came out as being gay some time back, so that kinda screwed up things from the hardcore Jesus-lover standpoint. Then there was Creed, but they split up (thankfully, as they were God-awful - pun firmly intended. :D), and there was Evanescence, but they ditched the Christian angle when they hit the bigtime. Even then those bands weren't coming right out and singing 'We love Jesus, praise the lord' in their lyrics. Most of the bands that I've heard doing that were bland at best, and craptacular at worst.

All IMO of course. Different strokes for different folks. Me, I'm going to go stick on some Emperor and sacrifice a goat. :D

Boo! Arabic music rocks! Ok, so some of Amr Diab's stuff is a bit cheesy and I still find Oum Koulthoum a bit waily, but Omar Faruk Tekbilek is stunning! :D
Also, you'd be amazed at the Arabic influences in western music these days! :D

I heard an absolutely hysterical joke the other day on "islamic rock" but I'll get sin binned if I repeat it here. Don't want ot offend anyone you know. And we probably do have a few islamists here.

Believe me, you are not. Every time I hear it I feel the urge to go out and cut throats, smoke crack and worship the devil to annoy the lunkhead who made it, stick up offlicences and gun down strangers- an effect that marilyn manson, led zeppelin, black sabbath and whoever wrote that 'fight music' song never managed to achieve on me.
