Has anyone here read any of those books? Are they any good?

They're pretty good, not great. They're overrated but read it if you have the time, and have nothing better to read. The most annoying thing is reading te series in a month, then a year later he comes out with the next book in the series and you have to go back and read the entire series again because you read it so long ago. And there's no end in sight for the series. Its on book 10 or something now.
Add to that the fact that nobody ever has a good time. Everyone spends their time being angry with each other and not co-operating! As if that could ever happen in the real world... ;)

Seems like they are overrated. I'll read them at some point, but at the moment I don't have 40 quid to shell out for books. As it is, I'm in the middle of the Count of Monte Cristo.

I've read the whole series, all 10 of them, averaging at around 600is pages each. Starts of good, but it starts to become unravelled, and like Pai said, there's no end in sight. Jordan should finish it soon IMO. The problem is that it starts off with basically one story, then the characters become separated and the story follows each of these characters, these characters meet other characters, get separated from them,a dn the story follows theese new characters as well, until by the 10th book, the series only progressed (I think) a few days, because it had to cover so many different characters.
Still, I read all the books, so they're not all bad if you have the time, and the story is good, just long-winded. Alex, if you don't have the money, try visiting a library ;)

I'll go with you on that. I reread the series recently and he has not even mentioned that Rand and Galad are half brothers, along with many other things

I absolutely love the series personally. The end is now in sight, as it's "only" 2 more books to go. I've just started rereading the series, have finished book one in about 3 days and starting the great hunt this evening.

I've read the first 10 (I think the latest is number 10) and I love them. I like the characters, character development and the whole setting. He's really done a lot of work to breathe life into the place and characters. I don't care for the whole "end of the world" generic storytline but there are some original parts. The last book in my opinion really didn't accomplish much though and seemed to be just a filler to extend the series. Overall, they are a good read and a good way to spend a lot of time reading about the same characters and seeing them develop (something I like to see).

I have to agree with some of the above posts. Robert Jordan started out well, but after a while it just got dragged out longer and longer with more and more characters. I stopped after book 6 or 7. It's not really worth it, in my opnion.

I got tired of it at the 5th book. Really a 800 page book that spans 9 days. How verbose can one guy get.

They start out great, but by about the 5th book descend into total mediocrity.
If you haven't read George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, I'd reccomend it above Wheel of Time.

I'll have to give the ice and fire a look-sie then. Thanks for the tip.

I used to love them when I was 12, I own all the books up to Winter's Heart (8th one?) but I grew tired of them. The universe is really too similiar to Lord of the Rings and I found it kind of silly in that you can draw so many simularities between the two and I found many of the characters to be immature, especially in the relationships between women and men. I almost expected some of the main characters to say "Back off u silly womenz/manz, you gots teh deadly cooties!!!" Oh well, maybe I'll start reading again and fall in love with the books oncemore.

The Wheel of Time is a good series that has gone on too long. If you don'ty read them back-to-back then you begin to stop caring. The annoying one is book 10 which just doesn't add that much to the story and is a real waste. Whilst the characters seem immature in their romances, the characters are meant to be like this due to the sheltered lives they meant have lived. Also a lot of books draw on LOTR.
However, there are better books out there to read. A song of Ice and Fire is a good series, i'm part way through it now. Also i recommend Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy and Tawny Man trilogy, though i can't speak for the Liveship Traders

Eagerly awaiting Knife of Dreams. Good series, but it shouldn't be compared to Lord of the Rings. The series has tapered off a bit... Crossroads didn't really do anything for me. It's just personal preference, and could be due to the fact I dislike Mat Cauthon with extreme prejudice, but the book was just a bit too... slow.

I liked the few book Off It Ive read but I think there are better series out there. The only book out of the 3 I own ill re-read is the first one. Kinda like Frank Herberts book only one book really worth reading again after youve read everyhting you can find.
You might want to give the works of Roger Zelazny a go. His Chronoiclas of Amber can be found in Eitehr two Volumes in several short novels rather cheaply as tehy are no long printed. The same goes for the following series the Merlin Chronicles. Really good stuff.
And whatswrong with MAt Cauthon? Aside from him being somne what evil seeming at times and selfish.
