Utterly awesome. 17 years old? Pfft. Frank Warren has apparently said that he could go pro and earn millions, but he doesn't seem interested! He wants to go for the next olympics! Only time will tell.

Yeh, was a convincing win. He's compelling to watch..calm, collected and he can certainly deliver with nice timing. I think he's got a lot of potential, he's so good for his age!

i haven't seen any of the other fighters left in his weight class, but i think they'll have to be awesome to beat Amir, unless soemthing goes terribly wrong. he seems to have the complete package, including the attitude, which is particularly good to see from such a young fighter. i think he's already done himself (and GB?) very proud, but i do think it's a terrible shame that we've only got one boxer competing

YAY! Us muslims really need more positive publicity.

P.s. I didnt watch the last boxing matchs for the olympics, how did it end?

Way to go Amir - Silver medal at least!

Faces a Cuban in the final - should be a good scrap!

Just watched his fight tonight and have to say the guys got a good bit of talent. if he beats mario kindelan cesar ??? from cuba then i would say he would be a world class amateur, he could even compete in the pros after a few years training.

Lookin at the pro uk lightweights i would say he might even be looking to fight the vanzies after about 10 pro fights then step up to take the british title. The British lightweight scenes pretty poor at the moment so its a good time for him.

IMO he should wait and go for the next olympics in 2008 before he turns pro.

I think lighter pro featherweights like Scott Harrison, Michael Brodie would beat him easily. As would Gomez at super featherweight (Alex Arthur would be about his level if he could lose the weight). If he puts on a few pounds then he would be facing the likes of Ricky Hatton and at the moment he would get beat everytime (unless he got a good cut).

Ahmeds got good foundations but is not ready for top class pros

OMG, Khan is amazing! I just saw one of his fights. At the end of the 2nd round, he was down by 4, but he ended up winning by 14! In the last two rounds, the other guy scored 10 times, but he scored 26.

I seriously think he is going to get a gold.

great fight again for Amir today. i said in my last post that anyone who beat him would have to be awesome - having seen the Cuban who will be his opponent in the final, i think he probably qualifies! having said that, Amir has been superb so far and he's definately in with a chance, so fingers crossed for him.

i'm not sure how the US team has gone on, but apparently they had almost a full team and earlier today were left with just one chance of a finalist, as opposed to team GB who had one fighter and he's made it to the final. it seems the Cubans are the guys to beat, i've seen a couple now and they've provided superb displays of the 'sweet science'. on another thread one or two people have said that they've been disappointed by the olympic boxing, but personally i've thoroughly enjoyed it - some great displays of real skill, and of course Amir Khan as been right up there with the best so far.

there's a huge gulf between most amateur boxing and the pros and no matter how good most amateurs are it takes them a while to adapt to the pro game - i remember going to see lennox lewis box a no-hoper at sheffield city hall (it was about his 8th fight) and he was awful, but we all know how good lennox turned out to be.

i agree though that Amir should stay in the amateur game till the next olympics if he can, especailly if he loses in the final. being olympic champion is really something special in my opinion, especially as there's only one olympic champion at any one time and they're only crowned every four years, whereas in the pros there are about half a dozen champions in each weight division!

What if he gets gold do you think he should turn Pro straight away?

i think it may be tempting for him to turn pro because although he seems very level-headed, he's still very young and the pro game is where the money and the glamour are, plus there will be alot of promoters banging on his door. but if i was advising him, i'd tell him to stay boxing as an amateur till the beijing olympics, win or lose. once he turns pro, there's no going back, and even if he waits till he's 21, he's still got a potentially long future in the pro ranks.

He has got some class, but to he honest i will be suprised if he wins the gold, his opponent is pure class, and with the extra experience and more amateur ring craft i can see that Khan will struggle to compete in the strategy side of the fight.

As for him turning pro, i think he needs to do it sooner rather than later, if only to start learning the differnt skills of the pro game. You watch his style and its made for the amateur game, he needs to switch his style that would win him a fight in the pro game. With the right promoter and manager he could be babysat for a couple of years before trying to go for a title shot. I think that doing well in the amateurs is sometimes a bar to becoming a good pro, the expectations are too high for them and most of the time fail to realise their potential.

Well done to Amir Khan after giving his all in the final (his time WILL come!).
When you realised the experience, class, age strength he was up against then you had to be realistic (although still hopeful) about his chances.
I hope he stays amateur to compete in Beijing then considers professional option.
One of the quotes of the year must be when asked whats next for him (after the final)
"sitting driving test and getting some assignments handed in for College"
now thats pressure!
His dad was legend as well
Brilliant stuff :)

I couldn't agree more. The final was always going to be tough for Khan, but he is *only* 17 so to have got to where he did was an amazing achievement. What a great guy! Congratulations to him!

A stunning athlete!

I don't expect him to turn pro until after the NEXT Olympics where he'll most definately be the top contender for the gold!
