I was reading some articles about boxing in the Olympics, and it seems that thirteen countries that sent fighters had Cuban coaches (aside from Cuba). Many of the fighters who didn't have Cuban coaches at least went to Cuba for a while to train.
What makes Cuba's boxing style so different and effective? Also, what are the main differences between the different countries' boxing styles? I always thought boxing was just plain boxing up until recently. :p

Boxing is what cubans do (sprot related).
Poor cuban kids have a dream of becoming great boxers and train from 5 years old. Kind of like MT in thailand. I once saw a documetary about boxing in cuba. That's where the info comes from. It's just their top sport.

Yeah boxing is pretty big over there. When I was there I used to watch the amateur fights and these guys would manage to knock each other out wearing the huge gloves and the helmets.

I noticed (from what I remember) that the Cuban fighter was a southpaw. (left hand lead) And he went for a lot of body shots. (which were removed from the olympic point system...boo...)
Anyone else notice this? Am I wrong? It might of been another fighter (Mexican maybe).
