Looked cool of what I saw last night. The girl that broke the world record was inceadbly fast and it was fun to watch. What was her name? The annoucers said that she had inpired thousands to start judo. I'd like to kow more about her. Also the guy that was fighting/sparring/grapling (what ever you call it) also broke a world record. Props to both. Judo is on agin for a couple more nights, hope fully with out the 45 minuts of sailing.

I found this one BBC's web site:

pretty cool.

I watched the match (on television) where she won her second gold. Very impressive. During the second fall, she seemed to go under and between the french womans legs, then lifting the womans leg and face planting her.

Even though I watched it I cant remember what I saw well enough to describe it.

Just saw some of the judo results, and Jimmy Pedro got the bronze for the U.S.A. :)

She did Seioe Nage. A really good roll through, too.

I thought it was pretty funny after the match where she pretty much jumped on her coach. So much for Japanese decorum. ;)

since I don't get cable, and the olympics is mostly gymnastics and swimming, I havent had the chance to catch any judo. However, I've lurked on the judoinfo boards and talked to people in my club. From what I've heard many people are unhappy with the poor ground game of alot of judoka in the olympics. It seems like people just give up if they end up on the mat. Anyone have thoughts about this?

Pressure from the TV companies. They want throws.

Newaza can be just as interesting (if not more so) than tachi waza to the trained eye...hell a battle for grips can be the high point of a fight...but they want flash throws, noise and colours. imo

i'd be inclined to agree if it wasnt the fact that judo has the crappiest times, at least here in America. It's at midnight most nights on a cable channel. The only exception is the heavyweight tomorrow which got a decent 7pm slot. I've heard some people complain that some refs don't understand newaza enough and stand the competitors up quickly

I started watching thinking I was going to see some Olympic class judo, was I ever wrong. I have seen better judo at the Junior Nationals. I thought Jimmy Pedro's match was extremely droll. One of his fortes is grappling, right? I didn't see very much grappling, or throws. I will give the atletes one thing, though, the referees did break them up much too quick. They needed to give them more time for mat work.

The records set were in number of Olympic and World titles

- 2 Olympic and 6 World for Ryoko Tani

- 3 Olympic and 1 World for Tadahiro Nomura

Great achievements. See story -

I think Tani also holds the record for consecutive tournament victories at international level, 4 yrs unbeaten.
