In groundfighting what do you consider to be your core "high percentage" moves?

Which escapes / pins / submission?

well I don't if there are high moves on there own on the ground, but i do find there are high percentage series of moves.

eg am hold my opponent in scaft hold and he pushes my face i figure 4 turn to cross body for the americana - work a lot, it he defends by joining hands and turning to the lock it usually pretty easy to insert the near arm and get the arm bar position.

I defo think the correct lock series rather than individual techs work better on the ground

Figure 4
Rear Bar Choke
A variant of Juji gatame (probably does have a name, I just don't know it), where your basically doing Juji but your both face down.

Anyone got any good info on face bars?

My most high percentage moves are:

Escapes: recovering guard
Sweeps: various elevator/hook types
Pins: side control
Submissions: triangle and armbar from guard and side control

Basically, if I'm on top I'm looking for side control, on the bottom I'm looking for butterfly guard or a climbing closed guard.

I try to vary things obviously, sometimes using knee on stomach, just using kimuras or whatever but the above is my basic grappling style.

IMO, a high percentage is anything you are good at and can apply against a resisting opponent. So, an omo plata may be high percentage for one guy and not another, it's not fundamentally "high percentage" or "low percentage".

------

Sort of off topic but the common moves I think people need to know (in order) for good ground fighting are:

Positional Escapes

1. Side Mount
correct postures +
a) recovering guard
b) getting to knees (including back door)
c) reversals

2. Mount
correct postures +
a) reversals
b) recovering guard

Guard Passing

correct postures +
a) Underhook passes (2)
b) Knee through passes (2)
c) Around passes (1 high, 1 low)

Positional Dominance

a) Side Control
b) Mount
c) Guard (top & bottom)

Sweeps

a) scissors sweep
b) elevator sweep
c) chest to chest

Guard retention

Submissions

a) armbar
b) triangle
c) keylock
d) guillotine

I find alot of over eager people or unexperined fighter extend there arm wich of course when I give them an arm bar. I don't know really any escapes I What I consider an escape Is setting them up for and finally getting a submission. I did like the triangle choke but have boycotted it for about 3 months now I got power bombed the last 2 times I did it. SO my high percentage submissionsare as followed
Arm bar
Guillitene choke ( I can't spell)
rearnaked choke
achillies lock
My submissions are limited and so is My BJJ knowledge but what I have I my arsenal is very effective. I'd rather know 2 or 3 things that I was excellent at then several that i was average. maybe one day I will say I excel at all, but as I've said before I don't feel BJJ is for the streets,it's for friends. I do Like how you control how much pain is inflicted though

when I do use BJJ I almost always go to my back and get in my guard. Inexperienced fighters or even good fighters with no BJJ
knowledge take it as there dominant when in actuality in a matter of moments their about to start screaming like a little girl

LOL! I hear ya!

I'm happy with the 2 or 3 things i have that are average and am working towards excellence LOL!

I should refrase that I have a few submissions that I'm average at and improve everytime I use them or practice them. saying I'm excellent at them makes a sort of cocky statement wich I'm not.

Hi and welcome to MAP :D

It depends on a few things - the most high %age move I would say is the rear naked choke - but you need the positional skill to take the back 1st.

I'm a big fan of the twisting choke from the guard - and the good old triangle which I use from just about every position.
