just want to get your opinion and comments, since i was a kid i want to learn judo, but because im skinny, small and weak with the rest of the average kids i decided to go for easier way to learn martial art, i've experiment with Taekwondo, Arnis & Karate. so i decided to go for karate. just recently i received my shodan in shotokan karate. eventhough i've got my shodan in shotokan i still have the passion for judo, i'm already 34yrs old, will it be hard for me to train in judo? i still have this impression that judo is for the big and strong. is 34yr old too old to start judo?

There are people who have started much later than 34 and have obtained their black belts, so no, it's not too late to start.
Ronald,
By the time you're 34 it's probably best to die. Look at other people in their mid thirties. They're one foot in the grave. And just look at the women! I mean come on! Why even buy make-up when you're that old? It's not like anyone actually finds you attractive.
BTW, the little age thing on the top right corner shows you're only 33 so there might be help for you yet. :D

Negative, 34 isn't too old for Judo....just gotta work on staying twice as supple as the young guns :D
So remember:
Plenty of stretching, glucosimine, Tiger Balm, ice/heat, tylenol  :D

:( Jim is right Ronald. I will soon be 35 and my family has abandoned me. I am on an ice flow drifting out to sea as I write this. I am far too old to be of any more use to them.
Nah! You are still a young pup! I restarted MA when I was in my early 30's and now have gone from just doing karate to studying aikido, BJJ and kickboxing as well. I have actually improved me health considerably and feel better than I did in my mid-20's. GO FOR IT!!

I think that considering that you are 1st Dan in Shotokan, it should give you a great base for judo - speed, power, timing etc etc.
Also, don't you realise that 95% of people you will be training with are children.
Come on now, don't be scared. :D

Ronald,
I would think a black belt, if nothing else, has taught you that you can accomplish great things with enough dedication and passion! I would greatly encourage you to do Judo, a decade of it has been the best foundation I could ask for as a launching pad for other MAs. It's always great to add to our arsenal no?
Make sure you discern between learning combat judo and sport judo, there is a difference and it is good to respect that difference as it can mean your life or death one day god forbid.

30's arent old, just be aware you arent 16 any more. you body will be more suseptable to injuries so warm up carfully before and after any physical activity. if you arent feeling 100% for training, dont waste your time or sensai's. nigling sprains and hurts could develop into bad pain so listen to your body and stay fit!

I started when I was 35, I only reached blue belt (2nd Kyu) & did it for 3 years, I really enjoyed it but constant injuries stopped me, but no your age should NOT be a factor. PIL SUNG!
