Ok I probably already know the answer but how can I kick up my metabolism?
As a kid I was always the skiny one and I was full of energy. Now I have put on a bit of weight and have lost a lot of that energy(I am only 17). I also find that I am not really hungry a lot of the time.

I know I need to get more cardio work in and eat more often, any other advice?

Something a friend of mine sent me just yesterday......

============

Water ......

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.(It likely applies to half the
world population.)

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often
mistaken for hunger.

Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study.

Lack of water, the Number 1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could
significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by
45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50%
less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Are you drinking the amount of water you should every day?

=============

In addition...

Eat more often (every 3 hours during the day)

Take a good strong multi-vitamin & mineral every day.

Lift weights to increase lean body mass.

I know I need to get more cardio work in and eat more often, any other advice? Good advice from Yoda, I'd just like to add that if you can do some cardio early in the morning before breakfast, that can make a big difference (a 20 or 30 minute run, cycle or swim would probably be ideal).

I do drink a lot of water by my family's standards but not as much as that thing Yoda posted reccomends so I can work on that.

As for the exercising before breakfast, I tried to get up early for about 3 weeks ( got up half an hour earlier for three weeks strait) but found myself unable to function towards the end of school. If it was not so cold out I would try the waking up and jogging thing. Maybe this summer... Grrrr I want one of those indoor bike thingies!

Yeap,

as well as eating 5-6 small meals a day. Cardio before breakfest boosts your fat burning by up to 600% I'm told (depending on where you get your figures).

Eat as few carbs as possible at night, since you're not gonna be exercising and it'll just turn to fat.

Always eat a protein with your carbs, carbs induce insulin which stores fat, and proteins induce gylocgen, which burns fat.

I've cut 3kgs in a week following the notes I've made, and I'm only 17 like you. I'm also feeling much better & healthier. :)

My diet goes like this:

breakfest - yogurt & scrambled eggs with a spoon of salsa in it
snacks - peanuts or fruit
lunch - pita bread with meat & salad
tea - whatever my mum makes, generally lots of vegies, meat & as few carbs from pasta & potatoes as possible - I don't each much of it.

Lots of ICED water throughout the day!

This is more a lifestyle diet, not a temporary one to lose the weight. Allow yourself one meal a week where you eat whatever you want, so you satisfy any cravings and remind yourself why you're eating the way you are when everyone else around is stuffing themselves with ****.

Thank you very much for that info, especially your daily eating habbits.
I see some definite changes I could make to my eating style.
I am really excited about the spicy food thing as I love spicy stuff and this gives me an excuse to eat it a little more often.
