Dreamweaver is very good and easy to use. If you want something reasonably simple to use and quite powerful it should do the trick. It would also be quite good as a basis for learning.
If you want to do something very complex, or you want to get into web design it probably isn't ideal (although pro's do still use it). It does, however, have it's flaws.
If you want to go further that that I would suggest getting some books on Java Script, ASP and XML.
Hope that helps!

I use Dreamweaver MX, Frontpage 2002, and A freeware version called Eversoft Firstpage.
Whatever happened to good old raw HTML? :D

I use DreamweaverMX ... but never the WYSIWYG. I use the text editor. I'm an old school programmer (nearly 25 years now) and was a proficient programmer long before WYSIWYG. As such, I'm most comfortable looking at a screen of code.
So I still use HTML. Most of my web work is application oriented and is a mixture of PHP, HTML, and JavaScript.

Dreamweaver MX Studio all the way.
Yup.. Dreamweaver MX is the best out there. Its damn expensive though :( Its a lot easier to use in my opinion if you already know at least some HTML, so its not quite dead yet

Obi Wan, Isn't Fireworks an Image editing package? I've used it too, I found it difficult to get to grips with, which is a shame, because I liked it :(

Fireworks is the partner programme to Dreamweaver - The two work together. Dreamweaver for assembling & managing web pages and Fireworks for creating graphics, image maps, navigation menus & pop-up menus etc.
I've been thinking of getting Studio MX for work, anyone got any experience of that?

Studio MX is what I use. You get...
Dreamweaver
Fireworks
Flash
Freehand
Coldfusion
It ROCKS :D
I'm going to have to buy some, do u know a UK site where I can get Macromedia stuff Yoda? I went to the main site and it priced it in dollars, which would mean extra shipping.
Whats ColdFusion do?

I got Studio MX from DABS.COM (www.dabs.com)
Coldfusion is Macromedia's own alternative to ASP, PHP etc.
Here's the Coldfusion website (http://www.macromedia.com/software/coldfusion/)
I can get DreamWeaver MX, Fireworks MX and Coldfusion on a student package for £210... ouch :(
Still better than the £750 for the regular version
