I too, am quite confused as to the difference :)
Resists initial urge to land cheap joke at Acekicken's comment 'I think' ;)

Submission/vale tudo fighting is a very different form then point sparring, kata competition, musical forms and glow in the dark nunchaku demos.
Submission Vale Tudo also does not neccessarily mean sport, Submission can be trained for self-defence, as can Vale tudo.

I thought that as they seem to both have a sporting element to them that they are quite closely related.

So do kickboxing and Muay Thai...
Karate/kenpo/tkd are all related
CKD and TKD
there are many related rooms.
But "Double nunchaku wrist rolls" and "avoiding punches from the guard" are very different skill sets.

I thought this thread was more points, striking, sport related and the other more submission, grappling, or less sport...........

I think that sports/points fighters get scared of big hariy men in vale tudo shorts therefore they must continue to be segregated.

I heard that rumour (or maybe I started that rumour)!
But anyway QED point proven and keep the two forums seperate... :D
Minor aside: Terribly boring week at work I really have no opinion either way.

OK, this section was originally started because member 'Cyclone' was interested in having a sporting/points section.
There are odd threads that discussed the merits and demerits of point fighting, though not many people on forum approve of it, so I guess the more serious sporting arts have ended up here by default;
