Muay thai or thai boxing??

whats the difference between Muay thai and thai boxing???

And what are they both??

muay means boxing
thai means thai
thus "muay Thai" is "Thai boxing". It's the same meaning, just that one is Thai the other is translated.

However, it is often mistakenly written down as:

Thai kickboxing (actually this isn't so bad but it doesn't really mean "muay")
Muay Thai kickboxing (not too bad either but a bit redundant)
Muay Thai Boxing (redundant)
Muy Tai Kickboxing
Tai kickboxing
Mu Tai boxing
Kickboxing

Avoid these at all costs...

I read somewhere recently that "Thai boxing" refers to just the actual fighting aspect of it, whereas "Muay Thai" refers to that plus the pre-match Buddhist ritual stuff. Not sure how accurate that is tho.

are you sure it isn't "ram muay" and "wai kru" that you are referring to? These are the prefight dance and ritual movements that pay homage to your teachers, camp, religion, ancestors and muay Thai.

I believe "muay" has other meanings as well, one of them referring to a style of haircut.
