We all know that any stereotype can be refuted by meeting any member that falls into that group [where is my flat cap? I must walk the whippet before I go to work down the pit... :D ] BUT redheads have a reputation regarding their temper control.

Setting on one side of the balance the calmness and self-control learned through MA, and on the other side of the balance the increased ability to break things and cause pain, has your MA made you a safer or more dangerous person to be around?

I'm a redhead, and yes sometimes I have a temper. Whether that's related to my hair or not I really couldn't tell you ;) :D

I would say that doing martial arts has taken the edge off the temper and put me in much better control. Amazing what a simple breathing technique can do for you in a stressful situation. Anyway, if I'm getting angry or frustrated, I can always go early or stay after at MA practice and take it out on a bag. I couldn't do that before.

edit- 10 votes already for how a redhead reacts portion of the poll? And here I thought us readheads were few and far between, unless people havn't been reading all the options ;)

I think for the sake of science (and my own purient interests) ALL redheaded females should post their photos here and let us know if the temper/hair color thing is true. Surely it would go along wtih the question posted also wouldn't it? Just for sciences sake of course.

Very well then Kick Chick, have it your way. ALL BLONDES, I REPEAT, ALL BLONDES ARE TO POST THEIR PICS HERE AS WELL ... for the purposes of science of course.

Shall we start with you, KC?

The redheads I've met were actually calm and shy. I've seen all races of all hair colors have bad tempers, never occured to me that their hair color or skin color was the cause.

My dad's side of the family is Irish/Welsh. My mom's side of the family is Korean. So what does that make me? Genetically drunk. :D

On a serious note, my mom told me that when I was born, I had this shock of black hair with a streak of red in the back. She has a ponytail that's about 20-21 years old, and you can see this lighter section. Last I checked (roundabouts 6 years ago) before I started dying my hair all shades of red, that section of hair was a very very light auburn color...I have a temper about as wide and long as the Han River.

My best friend of 15 years has the same ethnic background--Irish on one side, Korean on the other. However, she was born with red hair. She's got a temper the size of China when you tick her off...and she knows how to use sharp objects.

In these two cases, it could be the hair...or it could be that the heritage leads us to be genetically drunk. :D

my vote is for the three middle options. maybe i'm a little strange...
i find myself more actively involving myself in 'things', more physical with inanimate objects and more calm and collect with people, although slightly more inclined to lash out than i used to be, due to losing my old total lack of self confidence. that's not all to do with the martial arts but it certainly helps things along.

Greg - I've just re-checked the poll and picked up on the same thing. No non-streotypical redheads... [Hey! I'm Newcastle based as well - just a different country]

I knew I forgot something in the original post and of course it was the idea of 'genetically' red hair as opposed to 'chemically assisted'. (Thanks Kwaj)

In case anyone was wondering, I'm not red-headed, and I am as calm and peacefull a person as you could hope to meet. Which is just as well as I've been married 18 years to a 'flaming redhead'. We tend to balance each other out quite well. :D

You mean redhead and not hothead...? Well, I'm a redhead for one, and though all the fem redheads (or red'eds as my group likes to call them) are a bit tomboy-ish and fiesty, I don't blame it on MA but the fact that this is the South (ya'll).

Since I started MA, I've actually calmed down a bit, and gained a lot of self controll. If I ever got into a fight now without the skills I've gained, I'd probably hurt myself more than I did my rival.

Usually the only juvinile fist fights are between a group of the gangster steryotype bickering over something stupod like girlfriends or the new shoes.

The worst I've seen between redheads was between me and my friend, we avioded contact for over a year for some stupid unknown reason, and were brought back together by the most uber card came ever (http://www.tokyopop.com/dbpage.php?propertycode=FRU&categorycode=BMG&page=article).

So back to subject, I find redheads fiesty, bit not hot headed. Heh.

I'm a completely calm and quite person, and I think I always have been. When I was a kid in grade school I was picked on a little and I kind of learned to suppress my emotions and anger instead of lashing out. I think this was kind of bad for me because I held it all in and never lost my temper.

Martial arts has giving me an outlet for all of that suppressed anger. Now, I'm still calm but I'm probably not as stressed out as I was as a kid. I'm also working hard on expressing my emotions more healthy.

Ok I have to be the stereotypical red head I guess.
I ahve the biggest baddest temper I know.....lolaside from my step dad who inst redheaded but has Irish sooooo.
but im actually quiet safe now adays.. as long as im holding some thing dangerous. For some reason having the abilty to kill with little effort makes you less likely to fly off the handle...usually. Ive never gotten angry enough to hurt some one while waepon sparing.
But umm yeah. I have a bad temper. Done things i m not proud of because of it. Ill be quiet now.

I had reddish brown hair which was a mix of black hair with red hair through it, I did have a temper but many other factors have toned it out (and caused it) as well as training, diet, improved health (temper is related to the liver and I had a chronic liver disfunction) any way all the red hair has turned grey or fallen out so my hair looks blacker now.

redheads???? translation please i chose the top one.

It refers to the color upon ones head.
A red head is any one whose hair ranges a pale orange to a deep auburn.

I have red, blonde, and whit hair. so it looks moslty blonde. Most people call me blonde :bang:
