For those that enjoy 'fantasy' style books, what world would you like to live in and why?

I have been a big fan of Piers Anthony (most of his series), and especially enjoy the series set in the land of Xanth. "A Spell for Chameleon" was the first of this 'trilogy' that continued on to books 5,6,7,12+.

Living in a world full of puns and wordplay where everyone has a magical ability (although some are extremely boring abilities) would suit my weird outlook on life down to the ground. :D

Ok [expecting some reply from booksie_girl] - over to you.

Although its technically not fantasy, I wouldn't object to living on Pern. There's a few others as well that I'd like to give a try, from games, books, films, and so on. Greyhawk would be an interesting one for example, or Ravenloft...

Ravenloft? Are you stark raving mad? Well, I guess you would be if you lived there...

What do you mean 'Not Fantasy'???? You mean it's real ???

Must admit this isn't a series I've looked at, but it looks old style D&D based. Are you a reader or a player? Hundreds of years ago the lads at school had a very keen D&D group together. Lost touch as they all went off to University.

What do you mean 'Not Fantasy'???? You mean it's real ??? Pern is technically science fiction rather than fantasy, since there are supposed to be technological explanations for it all.

Hmmm.. When I was 10 or so, I wanted to live in the pokemon world, lmao..

Then at 13 I wanted to live on Gaia (FF7)

My fantasy fanaticism is a shadow of it's former self, but I'd like to live on a world full of conflict.. Much like ours, but I'd rather have the whole "Gun, atom bomb, explosives.." thing taken out of the picture.. Sword, shield, or just your martial arts know-how. Maybe something like on Timeline, but drifting slightly over into the final fantasy series.

Krynn, Toril, I grew up reading TSR novels and I have to admit it would be intriging to witness such a world first hand.

Hmmm.
The world of Faerun does hold a lot of possibility, but so does Middle-Earth. Gondor would be one cool place to live, but I'd also like to be able to go see the grand towers of Silverymoon, or venture into the perils of the Underdark, or participate in the Solstice festivals of Waterdeep.......
Yeah, I think Faerun just won.

Hmmm... if I were sucked into a book I dont care where I was put as long as I could follow tasselhoff around everywhere he goes:D.

Actually, im reading a non DL series right now written by Melanie Rawn. No ogres or wierd beasts, just dragons and differnent races of people. There are two kinds of magic users, diarmardhim and faradhim.... Very interesting magic users...They weave sunlight and moonlight so they can communicate with others of their kind, and start fires and stuff :D... conjur images etc.... its awesome... :) great stuff... Would love to be a sunrunner.

I like the fantasy worlds that also acknowledge the existance of our world.
Anyone of these would be fine for me because they all include a path home should I want to take it.

Dark Tower

Chronicles of Narnia

The Neverending Story

Disney World (people paid to act like cartoon characters? Tell me that's not surreal  )

I think either Faerun, or Discworld.

The problem is that while fantasy books are great to read, I don't think I'd actually like to live in many of these worlds. Ian Irvine's books - they've been at war with creatures from the void for generations, Garth Nix (Lirael series) they seem to have severe problems with necromancers. LOTR also at war. David Edding's Belgarid series - seems to be a lot of war there too even though the portrayal of it is a bit different, Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time - war again, and men going insane. Is there a bit of a pattern here? Then again, you can't have a good fantasy book without a war. Doesn't mean I want to live there though.

To live, I'd agree that Pern (although not technically fantasy) would be pretty good, I wouldn't mind the world of the Belgarid, and of course the Discworld would certainly be interesting. Dare I say Harry Potter? You've got to admit that going to a school like that would be pretty cool.

Go ahead - dare! :D I wouldn't mind running a shop down DiagonAlley.

Okay, so what would you do in this fantasy world if you lived there? If you think that you'd be a warrior/magician/etc. Then why aren't you doing a similiar type of job in this world? Odd are if you did live in one of those fantasy worlds you'd just be doing the same sort of thing you do in the real world.

If you don't agree, please feel free to explain to me why you'd feel more able to follow your prefered path in the 'fantasy' world than you would in the real one.

Odd are if you did live in one of those fantasy worlds you'd just be doing the same sort of thing you do in the real world.Easy, if it was Erdreja (the world of Lorien Trust) then I'd most likely be a fighter. If it was Ravenloft then I'd be doing pretty much the same job as here, rapidly going mad.

If you don't agree, please feel free to explain to me why you'd feel more able to follow your prefered path in the 'fantasy' world than you would in the real one.For the fighter in Erdreja the main explanation would be because that's what I spend as much time as possible being at LT.

Can't argue the logic - it's the traditional "grass is always greener" thinking that plagues the human race.

My wife is into 'history' where I like 'sci-fi', and she likes certain periods in time. Sometimes she thinks about the sort of family she was born into and translates that to her chosen time period - result being that she would probably be 'in service' to a family and working a 20 hour day.

But.... We're talking fantasy here, so have some fun!!! :D :D :D

From my last post, you'll see that I don't figure myself much more than a shopkeeper - but as I teach evening classes in computing, I could get some evening work teaching Scrying up at Hogwarts ??? :)

Since I mentioned Sci-Fi (which is a different form of fantasy), I might be able to get some bar work on Babylon5.

Lets see, I'm a student in this world, if I was in the world of Harry Potter, I'd probably be trying to Hermione a run for her money :D Same sort of life, learning stuff and going crazy trying to learn everything in time for exams, but instead of learning Maths, I'm be learning transfiguration, instead of chemistry, potions, and instead of TKD, magical dueling :D
