I was just wondering what peoples favorite filmed fights are and why and also favorite movie fight scene is?

The Fight Scenes in 'The Bourne Identity' are fantastic. Apparently, Matt Damon had private lessons with Dan Inosanto every day for over 6 months in preparation - and it's only a couple of very short, messy sequences. They're awesome though :)

Iron Monkey was... pretty good too of course. Although, the title of the movie is indicitive of it's realism..

One of my favourites has to be the end fight in Jackie Chans "Young Master". Classic Kung fu with a bit of humour.

Its hard to say what my overall favourite would be but it would probably be by that man Bruce Lee (Too many to choose).

Few fantastic over the top scenes in Jet Li's Fist of Legend. He does a great job of recreating BL's intensity, even putting some JKD style bits into a few fights :)

The Boure Identity gets my vote for trying to get away from the typical chop-socky you see in most films now (which I do kinda like)

Best punch has to be Brad Pitt`s very first punch in Snatch, perfect knockout shot.

Hmm.....I had been thinking back to the old days for a while.......does anyone remember fearless hyena starring Jackie chan? really good movie with a good fight scene according to me then I was 12 :D

My favourite is in 'Raising Arizona' with Nicholas Cage and John Goodman... Very realistic.

Raising Arizona, thats a coen brothers film isn't it? They do some really good alternative stuff. The big Labowski was great. John Goodman flattens the niahlists with a bowling bowl while Steve Buscemi dies of a heart attack.

Snatch was a great film, with Brad Pitt doing a good impression of a gypsy fighter.

I'm gonna have to watch Bourne Identity, read a review by that said the fight scenes reminded them of Steven Seagal.......

The fight scene at the end of Lethal Weapon 1. Groundfighting and side-handled batons!

My favorite!

Got no respect for Niahlists... They just hate everything. :)

Did like the bourne identity just because I do Kali BUT I didn't like the editing of it. You saw a guy strike him, camera whirls around making it near impossible to see what he's doing and the attackers on his arse.

But nice to see them including something which isn't a normal martial art for Hollywood films.

Realastic fight scenes would be way of the dragon

The cheesy and the eye catching fight scenes would be Fearless hyena starrin' Jackie Chan

Award for most relaistic street fight??:

Hugh Grant in "Bridget Jones' Diary"

Award for my favorite:

The Crow- The scene where he storms the club. I'm not going for realism or technical ability but from a film qaulity point of view.

I saw this at the cinema last year with Enter the Dragon --superb.

Also the fight from flash Gordon was good

Emperor Ming: Klytus! Are your men on the right pills? Maybe you should execute their trainer!

I agree CKD, I like the ridiculously over the top stuff just as much as the gritty realism. At the end of the night in Blackburn I’ve sat there many times eating a pizza and watching the fighting.

I watched Gangs of New York last night. Some nice brutal gang warfare in that. Daniel Day-Lewis is great as the evil gang leader!

I have 2. And yes I do think Yoda kicks butt in Start Wars II but it's not one of them. I have a perchant for Phillip Rhree in the last fight of Best of the Best and again in Best of the Best IV when he has been hung up and escapes knocking out a drunk guard and then having to fight his way out of the building. He finds himself hiding in rooms he thought were vacant and there are twenty guys in there training with all kinds of weapons and such.. Of course he gets out, but just to watch the choregraphy he did is amazing. I can't say much really for the movie, but that's not why I bought it.
But again,.............then you have Yoda. :)

I agree the cinematographer decided on fast cut to give it more of a frantic look. I`d have preferred something a little easier to follow

the fight scene from Gross Pointe blank is quite good, again not very realistic but quite good for a non MA film

I really liked Bourne Identity - actually the blurred quite cuts was probably more to make him look faster than he is. When you watch someone who fights the good really it is kinda hard to follow their movements. I liked the cartoon esque real fighting in Blade II but my absolute favourite is all the stuff in Gladiator.

The war at the start, the chaos of the arena then that awesome fight with Commodus at the end - they actually used something other than the sword for a change.
The entry into the arena for that fight is also one of my favourite movie scenes ever.

Ah! One of my favorites that I forgot to mention. There is a great scene were a guy comes up and grabs the guy's forearm and he drops him with a simple technique from Hapkido - one of the first one's that I learned in MA's and recognized in a movie.

As for the Bourne Identity - I loved the 'choppyness' of the film and the fight scenes, personally I think it makes it seem much more frantic - and in that sense, true to life. In a real fight, you don't get to see exactly what is going on from a nice angle, and it is quite frantic I'd think. So in that sense it follows with the rest of the movie in trying to put you in the character's shoes.

Anyhow, I'd recommend either of the movies - they're both awesome movies.

Old movie called Master Blaster, about a paint ball tournament, has some fairly decent fight scenes. Don't remember the name of th elead actor, but do remember there were some big name martial artists in it. FIght with the stick and knife was particularily good.

I particularly like 'Iron Monkey' there's some pretty good fight scenes in there! Also check out the 'Once upon a time in China' series starring Jet Li, they're pretty good as well!

Some of Jackie Chan's films are good too! 'Who I'm I?', great fight sequences!! But there's loads I can't quite think of. Oh, 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', the fight scenes were just beautifully made!

i like the fight scenes in jet li's fist of legend and in any of bruce's movies

and i would also like to say that i love the fight scenes in a particular anime movie Cowboy Bebop-The Movie, there a bunch of well choreographed fight scenes in there, and they are actually more to the realistic side wich is un-normal (it being an anime and all) I recommend cowboy bebop to anyone
even if you hate anime (it has been called the anime haters anime)
but in the movie my favorite scene is where vincent and spike are on the train and as spike runs finds a chance to rush in he takes a risk in running down a couple of seats and landing a perfect flying side kick to his face
it is a short but sweet fight scene, the others are very well too

the hero starring jet li, great great import movie. completly impossible fighting but well thought out none the less.

and for those of you that like the absolutly insane,... i mean totally rediculous and make you laugh at the impossiblity of it all check out 'duel to the death'. i saw it this past wednesday at a friends house. first of all,... the opening scene is ninjas VS. shaolin monks. ... it was the greatest thing ever. just the awesomeness of that idea. and from there the movie just turns into a hillarious romp of exploding ninjas, severed appendages, naked ninjas, samurai vs. chinese swords, flying ninjas, and a conspiracy... i give it a 10. information below.
'

Director: Ching Siu Tung

Starring: Chui Siu Keung, Liu Sung Yen, Flora Cheong

Often hailed by critics as the best swordplay movie ever, this worthy martial-arts film that uses outstanding cinematography and choreography to bring a legend to life. The story is about a contest, held once every 100 years between Japanese Ninjas and Chinese Shaolin monks. In this century's event, the two chosen participants have become friends, and combine forces to defeat an enemy.

but my favorite fight scene would have to be the first one in "Drunken master II" "fey-han" using a broadsword (jackie chan) vs. the old guy with a bamboo spear. excellent execution.

Mark Dacascos in the last fight scene in the movie, Drive, was very nice for an American movie. Very exciting action. Jet Li vs Donnie Yen in Hero was really cool. Beautiful movie that. Jet doing chin na at the start of Fist of Legends was amazing to watch, simply because it is such a technical scene that was captured very well, which at that range is very hard to film. In fact, Fist of Legends is one of the best martial arts movies ever in my opinion. Jackie Chan vs the little white guy in Gorgeous was good too.

Overall, Ong-bak has some of the best sequences though. Alot of people say they have seen it all before, and it is true that alot of the stuff in Ong-bak can be found in much of hong kong cinema, but alot of it is very fresh, especially and at least in its delivery. A must see movie.

And for the record, I think the fight sequence in Bourne Identity is one of the best. Griity realism at its best. The knife work in The Hunted is good too.

Heh, i'm glad someone mentioned gorgeous...i was absolutely stunned at how fast those fights were....the guy Jackie fought was an australian too, heh.

Another favourite of mine would be the duel at the end of Rob Roy....perfect broadsword versus rapier fighting there...

But my favourite would have to be the chateau fight scene in the matrix reloaded. People dressed in a Uber cool outfits duking it out with oriental weapons in a giant armoury room in a rich frenchmans mansion, while Rob Dougan music grooves in the background? Two words.....hell...yes....

P.S, i also liked the fight between luke and vader in the empire strikes back...that was really well put together, as was the duel in episode one....shame about the rest of the movie, lol.

way too many favorites to name, so i'll just name a few here and of coz the ones that i can remember right now:

if you haven't seen this movie yet i suggest you do so

Fist Of Legend - the end fight between Jet Li and Billy Chow, need i say more??

Wheels On Meals - the end fight between Jacky Chan and Benny 'The Jet', this is often regarded as the most intense fight scence ever captured on film, it also stars the "three deadly" Jacky Chan, Sammo Hung and the best among the three Yuen Biao

Way of The Dragon - Bruce Lee vs Chuck Norris, the most realistic fight scene ever captured on flim

From movies i've seen, i'd have to say my favorate fight scenes are some stuff from iron monkey, and kiss of the dragon, i like when jet li fights the two russian looking guys. I'm also a fan of jakie chan, i like a little humor in my fights...well not really, its just funny to see someone use all those facial expressions. I also liked the chateau fight (can't spell) from the matrix reloaded.

I like silly fight scenes in movies. Like that one in Operation Condor, I believe it was, where Jackie Chan was fighting in a wind tunnel.
However, one of my all-time favorite movies for hysterical fight scenes is Dragons Forever. Pair up Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung, and a poor guy named Biao Yuen who did some other work with those two, but whose name isn't as recognizeable. The three of them are all technically on the same side, but they think the others are bad guys, so every time they end up in the same room, they just break out into these fights. It's a great movie.
My favorite badly-done kung fu movie of all time, though, is Master of the Flying Guillotine. It actually has some good fight scenes during the tournament part. Win Without A Knife's tournament fight is pretty good, as is the very strange one on the poles. The last scene in the coffin shop was a little long, but still good enough to keep interest. Both are good flicks, I reccommend them both very highly!

Hero: Nameless and Sky's fight in the beginning, particularly the fight 'in their minds'. The speed and precision of the movements between the two were just great to watch.
The first exchange, when Jet Li charges and leaps, was also good in the sense that it gave a sense of power to Jet Li's character (a contrast, perhaps, to Sky's feat against the defeated Qin palace swordsmen)

Kiss of the Dragon: Jet Li vs the policemen in martial arts garb. I always like a 'one against many' match, and this one with barehand movement and sticks were just cool.

Troy: All the fights involving Achilles. The first fight (the one that ended with one blow) was quite a treat and gave the feel of 'realism' to the film as far as fights were concerned. I also liked it when Achilles went close-quarters on the beach with two swords. The duel against Hector was also quite good (though there were some times that both seemed a bit slow on the moving). By the way, was that Hsing-I at the start of the duel, when Achilles closed in one Hector by moving on a zigzag pattern( ala Chicken-form) and attacking/thrusting with a spear?

Yojimbo: When Sanjuro kills and maims a bandit near the start of the film (when he was being 'intoduced' to the two factions). Just plain cool.

Drunken Master: ummm...i did like the training sequences...the last fight was kinda nice, though it felt a bit contrived

Under Siege: The knifefight between Seagal and Tommy Lee Jones.

gladiator: any one of maximus' fights, well thought out, really captured the realism.

MI2: last fight scene between ethan and that bad guy

last samurai: when the samurai teaches cruise a lesson

I'm going to be really cheap and say the training simulation in the first Matrix movie. That was cool! After the first movie it all got boring because then I could actually follow the movements.. especially in three.

The Bourne movies were definitely awesome-!

I forget which movie this is from, but I like the opening of a fight scene between Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. I haven't seen the whole movie.. It's where Bruce Lee immediately tsakes charge of the fight and walks from his starting position to another location in the fight area. That seems really bad@ss.
