Two questions:
1. What MA Magazine(s) do you read?
2. I do Karate. Is there a good one for me?
Cheers.

Tae Kwon Do times, cause I know the editor and Black Belt. Both have an awful lot of BS and commercialism tho.

Inside Kung Fu. I also have heard there's a new magazine coming out by the same publishers who will dedicate it to K1 and kickboxing: I'm hoping to get this soon!
Some IKF articles have really inspired me. If you're taking a traditional martial art, and are interested in the following topics, you'd love these:
- December 2002, "3 Taoist Lessons you Should Know"
- April 2002, "Shaolin's Top Monk Tells All!"
There are many more, but these are the only articles that are coming to my memory as of now.

For several years had a subscription to Black Belt Mag. It's by far the best for general martial arts information, but it's too commercial and trendy for me. The latest fad is played up constantly. After a while I got tired of that.
For a year or two I had subscriptions to Inside Kung Fu, and Martial Arts & Combat Sports. Their focus is more narrow than that of BB Mag, but they suffer from the same fault: too commercial, too trendy. If Chinese arts are your thing, though, maybe IKF would appeal to you, because 60% of the articles are on some form of Chinese martial art.
I still have a subscription to Aikido Today Magazine because I do aikido. It tries to appeal to all aikidoist but really I think the magazine appeals only to West Coast people, because of its heavy focus on the spiritual and philosophical side of aikido.
I don't know of any magazines focused on karate that are still in publication. Over the years the publishers of BB and IKF have run karate magazines (Inside Karate was one of them), but I think all of these magazines have folded.

So far, only The Journal of the International Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Association. An excellent publication, by the way -- has lots of good practice tips, with illustrations.

I'm another Journal of the Asian Martial Arts person. I also read whatever Dragon Times became... "Classical Fighting Arts."
Basically I'm only interested in the scholarly ones. Inside Kung Fu isn't bad on occasion. But, both it and Blacbelt seem to be about reporting on the biggest advertiser each issue more than getting the facts straight.

Thanks.
I did a search for "Magazine" in the Title only, before I posted.
Still, I didn't spot Andy Murray's thread at the bottom of this page either.

I feel the same way... BBM could be so much better if they didn't have 50% ads...
I also read the Scandinavian (Swedish) magazine Fighter. It's got more local (to me) news than American magazines have...

I used to religously buy Blitz Australasian Martial Arts Magazine, and periodically when the topics looked interesting, I would get Black Belt, Inside KungFu, Australian Tae KwonDo, and Australian Kickboxer.

I occasionally get to read either Black Belt or Inside Kungfu, but what I regularly read is the RAPID Journal (Research And Propagation for Internal arts Development).
Its a local, quarterly publication here in the Philippines (but I recall that they accept foreign subscribers) that primarily features Chinese Internal arts (or internal arts in general), but also a wide range of other topics (owing to the fact that articles are submitted on a volunteer basis...a lot of which happens to be FMAs). I recommend it. :D
As a supporter of said journal...I'd be happy to forward any inquiries to the editor (such as subscription and submission of articles) :D
Ciao!

I do not have a problem with the ads in general I just wish they would make sure the ads were responsible (like all the black belt by mail ads, or the how to use the powers of your mind to vanquish enemies).
They are just doing what anyone of us would do, and try to make as much money as possible. The only other problem I have is twice so far in two magazines the article says continued on this page, and when I turn to that page it is not there...

Johnny,
What about Combat or Traditional Karate?
They are published in the UK by Temple Publishing - 0121 344 3737 or trad.magazine@btclick.com
It can be very difficult to find in the shops, normally only the large WHSmiths seem to stock a few copies.
