Alright folks here's a quick question.

I'm currently preparing for my 2nd Degree in March and one of the things I have to practice is my foot sparring.

Since we have such a broad spectrum of associations and experience I thought I'd ask about this subject.

Incidentely, for the unitiated foot sparring is like one-step sparring. One attack, one counter. However this time all the attacks are kicks and the blocks/counters must be delivered by the legs/feet.

Have you done it?
What do you think?
Any interesting blocks for kicks??

Thanks

Timing is even more important now with the way you described it I feel. I think it's a valid excersise but not very practical for self defense (although it sure is fun to do and watch).

Some things you may want to consider when doing this is not so much block, rather jamming the attackers leg, or simply evading the kick and counterattacking right away.

For counter attacking, the spectrum is wide open, do what you feel is comfortable and works.

Keep us updated on how the training is going for the test :)

One of the technique I have used is;

Attacker- From left fighting stance Performs right turning kick(round house)

You- From left fighting stance perform right inside crescent to just above attackers right knee (to block) from there chamber for sidekick and counter to midsection with side kick. or You can from left fighting stance perform a left outside crescent to just above attackers knee place left foot down and counter with right front or roundhouse(turning) kick.

The foot onesteps are fun but like artikon said not practical for self defence. But it sure can improve your foot speed.

1. (like ROBERT said): Bring your foot from the outside into a crescent kick (block with the edge of the foot.... more surface area) as as the deflection occurs, chamber and drive a quick kick (side kick) into the midsection or low to the inner knee.

2. Side step outside and drive a ball of the foot low front kick into supporting leg's inner knee.

3. Sde step inside close and drive knee up into back of kicking thigh... grab the guy (for support) and sweep supporting leg from the back to the front.

4. As he shoots the kick, drop to a knee and spin, bring a low spinning hook kick to supporting leg's side of the calf muscle (make sure to follow the kick through and bring yourself back up to standing)

5. Shin blocks... crescent kick blocks, etc. are good.

Never actually done this, as someone said above it sounds impractical but fun. What I will have to do on my next grading is one-step sparring with kicks. It's exactly the same as one-step except you can attack with kicks, if you are going attack with a kick you start in L-stance Guarding block rather than Parallel ready stance.

As for foot sparring, you could try and use a few checking kicks, before hte kick really starts to accelerate towards you, then counter with side, turning or sweeping kick.
