Does anyone know of any silat classes in Melbourne, Australia? Thanks
Hi David. Yes, I know of two but I wouldn't recommend them to you. They are basically Karate schools that *ahem* left their parent organisations and overnight became Penjak Silat schools.
Good luck with the search.

Thanks for the info anyway Jim. I guess I may have to head to Indonesia one day in the future.
There are quite a few Balinese in my home town and one of the guy's grandfather was very well known for his style of Silat in Bali but unfortunately he doesn't remember anything of any great value.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Leslie Irawan also teaches silat. He has a weekday evening class in Armadale and a Sunday afternoon class at the Nunwading aquatic centre. He was recommended by the Indonesian embassy.
PS, this is not to say that silat pd class is not recommended - I asked the embassy long before the Albert Park classes started. If you were ask today, they might well recommend those classes as well as Leslie's.

lol! No kidding? Can you send me details of these guys to my private mail? I have absolutely no idea how karate could translate into silat.
