1. Before he GETS in your face - Jab jab jab jabbety jab jab

2. If he's there - slip, weave, swing step, or clinch and tie him up.

3. Ask your boxing coach

Keep your head moving. Don't keep it in the same place for more than a second or two...along with that Jab jab jab jabbety jab jab as Yoda said....keep your footwork active as well. Your feet can be your best defence if used properly.

I've been wondering about this for along time. Normally what i try to do these days is attack them if they come at me, normally with the jab. If they get to close and start throwing the punches then I clinch with them.

Naturally the main thing is that you do something instead of panic and take the hits.

One way i like to practise this is on a heavy bag. Get in close and get used to striking from close, then sometimes act as if im getting pounded on, then suddenly lash out and start working the bag. If not then get close to the bag and clinch it. It's helped me alot! Give it a try and see if it works for you. I think the main thing is that you get comfortable with fighting in so close so that your alot more relaxed and allowed to act faster because your comfortable with the lack of distance.

try and get your guard up, hang in there. when you see an opening, try going inside, maybe an uppercut. you could also try tangling him up, but i doubt you'd want to have your face caved in when you try and grab him.

...and use your feet! boxing is just as much footwork as it is handwork. move. step out and circle. move your body and "roll" (not to be confused with rolling, i.e. grappling).

Move around and DON'T just stay in one place and just get blasted, so yeah also learn how to slip and keep your hands up...

What Yoda said,

Jab jab jibbety jab jab........ HOOK! UPPER!

If he gets in make sure he's in a place he never wants to be again ;)

Or clinch, and wait for a ref stoppage, although you'll eventually get into trouble if you keep doing it.

The best method I use is literally moving foward throwing punches. Doesnt nessesarily matter if they land well(you try to aim still :D ) but literally plow him down with body movement and punches.

Wow thats like asking , how do i learn to box?

Go to a boxing gym :D

Somethings you cant just ask , you've got to learn them with a trainer standing by.

I just joined and this is my first post. I was gonna start a new thread, but decided this topic was basically the same as what i was gonna ask, just a little difference.

I recently started amatuer boxing with my friends, but its not formal at all, just my friends getting together and putting on gloves and going at it. Well recently i boxed a friend of mine for the first time. He weighs about 190/195. I weigh 165. I know that weight doesnt make too much of a difference in boxing, but for the way he was goin at it, it does in this case. He had never boxed before, but he had wrestled. A lot. So when the match started, i was kinda dumbfounded for what to do because when we started, i went into my little defense thing of sizing up the opponent and gauging his moves and stuff like i usually do, but then he starts attacking.
How his attacks worked was basically he just comes at me slowly, and when hes within attacking distance, he throws a jab, and then just barrels through. He Throws hooks, and gets within my guard by getting his body up against mine and punches everywhere. Once that happens, i try to duck one punch then jump out of the way and throw a hook to his head while doing so. And then we start it over again.

My question is how would i prevent against his style? The basic jist of what he does is barrel into me, so anyone have any suggestions for that? The only thing i could think of doing is when we start, feint with a strong blow so he goes defensive right away, and when he sees that it was a feint, then go and shove him with my gloves so he gets off balance and then start throwing combos or something.

But does anyone have any ideas?

It does , especially if you're of different heights .

well in other matches weight wasnt a big deciding factor... We're the same height tho.
