Has anyone out there played the Shenmue series? I loved. It was original and pretty fun to play. I was addicted to the arcade games. I havn't played Shenmue 2 yet.
What did you people out there think about Shenmue.
Shenmue 1 and 2 are my favorite games of all time
Let just say I love the:
Free roaming(When I first played this game I was awed by the fact that you can roam around so freely in a huge environment with better graphics than most RPG's)
Character development
Storyline
Going to the Arcade
QTE (It gives you a chance to test your reactions, one of the coolest things in the game)
Fighting (Sometimes while your roaming the streets at night you run into a couple of badies sometimes more, I think thats awesome)
Armrestling (shenmue 2)
Gambling (shenmue 2)
Working for money (Simple nothings free in life, This adds alot of realism to the game)
Graphics (Mind Boggling especially in shenmue 2)
Motorcycle riding (only in shenmue 1 unfortunately)

Love both the games. Still, haven't completed the 2 but I've finished the 1st one 3 times so far. Only thing problematic with the first is you had a little too much time to yourself. Sure, you could use that for parcticing your Jujutsu but, still, the beginning was a little slow.
Second one, man, I spend TOO much time just trying to get money. So far that is the only problem, but it does seem to be a little bit more confusing to play. The controlls I mean. I just can't really seem to get a hang of the Xbox controlls. Also my problem is it has been such a long time since I've played it that I've forgotten what I'm actually suppose to go and the notebook is a little unclear.
Oh well, still love both of the games and can't wait for the next game to come out. If it ever does.

I bought a Dreamcast just to play the first. Really great games. Need more fighting opportunities in Shenmue 2, IMHO.
In #2 for money - if you want to start over, here is a trick - as soon as you get off the boat, buy as many zippo lighters as you can afford in the dock area. Also, be sure to investigate the boarding house for some collectible toys. When your bag is stolen and the money is gone, the zippos will still be there and you can then sell them off an have at least some of your money back.
Once you meet the girl martial artist in the park, you should be able to find a secret alleyway just north of the guest house. Previously it was boarded up but it will open. In the back of that area you will find boxes full of collectibles that you can sell for pretty good money. Go to as many pawn shops as you can find - the prices for each piece can be very high or very low at diferent spots so choose carefully where you sell each set.

I loved these games  Just bought myself a 2nd hand dreamcast and both games to play again until xbox 360 comes out. Anyone know if or when the third part is coming out?

Nothing official on part three. I think we talked about it a month or two ago in another Shenmue thread.

i don't think were in a good position for part 3.
it's looking like, we're not going to get it.
personally i hated shenmue. it was the start of the whole "enviorment should be completely interactive and realistic". = crap. IMHO.
it ruined games. games are supposed to be fun not so close to reality, that you need a blanket at night. it's crap.
the story of shenmue is good. but let me watch it. playing it is crap. "why don't you move around a forklift until you bleed from the eyes."
developers: "let's let them play an hour and a half, getting from point A to point B. did i say an hour and a half? i meant 5 hours."
shenmue is good for it's contribution to video games. (woot! SEGA) but it's not a good game (SEGA?).
it, like alot of SEGA games. but shenmue.....what? from the guy that made virtua fighter, this game should be good without having to fight.
i don't like this game. that's my personal opinion, lots of people do. so pick it up if you want. i'd give shenmue a 7.0 and that's being kind.
buy something else.

Yes, amazing games, ive played through the first, but shnemue 2 i havent finished because my game CD is scratched and freezes at a certain point in the game everytime, so im going to need to get a new one or try n remove the scratch. And the reality aspect of it was a great thing, it wouldnt have been fun without it for its style of play.
