As part of my university course this year I had to translate some stories from Tibetan Buddhist texts into English. The Buddhist text the stories are from are majoritively translated directly from Sanskrit and the Tibetans were rather strict about keeping things authentic even down to using the Sanskrit languages word order in some cases as opposed to the Tibetan. So anyway I thought seeing as I am typing the translations up anyway that if anybody (be they Buddhist or not) would like a copy I'll send them one (via e-mail). I realise its a longshot but you never know!
What we have on offer are:
Prince Mahasattva: This is a pretty common story about one of the Buddha's past lives as a Prince who gives his life to feed a hungry tigress. Its one of the Jataka tales however while the story is fairly common the version from the Tibetan text is actually not that common.
The Houseowner Danduin (dbyigpacan): This is a less common story which is from the sutra of the wise and the foolish. Its about an unfortunate Brahmin who has various mishaps and gets taken to be judged before a king. Its actually pretty humorous and has amazing parallels to the story of King Solomon from the bible towards the end.
The Brahmin and his goat: Im not actually sure where this story is from but again its quite funny its about some thieves trying to steal a goat from a Brahmin without using violence.
King Utrayana: This is another pretty famous Buddhist tale revolving around the first drawing made to depict the 12 links of dependant origination. Its a bit repetitive but all round good. Unfortunately Im only at the start of this translation so it will have to be put under the coming soon category, still if anyone is inteerested let me know and ill send them the translation whenever its finished and typed up (in 1 million years ;)).
