What is "Chambering"?

A position from which a technique is launched.

It might be the high knee tucked position used prior to firing a round house kick in some arts, or the position a particular attack in FMA is launched from as a couple of examples.

Sooooo...if I chambered a side kick (for KB), it would be where I moved from fighting stance to lifting my knee and moving my foot 90 degrees...

Yeah, the position before you extend the leg is the chamber. ;)

Why is it called chambering? I know it doesn't really matter, but Id be interested to know.
