Morning everybody,

I come to you all with a slight problem I have.

On my PC at home I have Windows 2000 Professional install. Every time I boot up, I have a sign on and password to get me into Windows. Unfortunately, with no fault of my own the password has been changed and the person who changed in must have had a bad day.......... and now I cant get into the PC.

Any thoughts on how I can bypass this?

Thanks!

Could try logging in as administrator if you can remember the password for the administrator account.....

Or re-install windows :/

Hhmmmm - The sign on which I used was the Admin one!

That's kind of last re-sort........ which I am very close to..... I am now searching for a boot disk to let me do this.

Try to login with a guest account, maybe you have those enabled. Try “Guest”.

If you get in you can try to get some tools for cracking the whatever-it-is password or for removing it. Maybe you find something on sites like http://neworder.box.sk .

Also from the guest account you can try to change the Network settings. Note that it will anyway prompt for your Admin's password if you want to change some system settings.

If you fail with that, take the Win2000 CD, insert to your CD drive, goto BIOS, check the Boot sequence so it boots from CD first, go boot in, enter Setup of Windows 2000, and choose Repair mode, then repair automatically and let the system repair everything it can.

It should reinstall all the stuff and hopefully prompt for a new Admin's password.

Usually on repair your desktop and stuff from the Startmenu should not be lost, nor should be any installed programs or the stuff needed from the registry.

Ooops :D

Theres lots of bits of software that’ll do the job, just that most people try and charge an extortionate amount for them. Astalavista.com (think I’ve spelt it right) has lot of dodgy stuff you can search for.

I’m at work too, so I can’t really search either. Are most of us allegedly working? ;)

Big e, why not try enrolling in a evening class for programming? The local college by me does evening classes in C++ and Java, that way it wouldn't intefer with your NVQ. Java's a good language, and fairly straightforward to learn once you get the hang of it (I'm saying that after spending 2 weeks working on a simple app.. doh!)

If you need any tips on Books etc, PM me, I've got a list of e-books and material from Uni

I highly reccommend C++ How To Program by Dietel and Dietel. I coded my school assessment tasks in VB due to lack of time, and the whole class was using VB, the switch from C++ to VB is so incredibly easy, learning syntax is a pain though! :D

dietel n dietel is good one...i prefer robert lafore cuz it starts from beginner goes on to intermediate n touches the advance part(not system programming)
there's one site for programming which hav free java n c++ books? i forgot the author's name..it just escapes from my mind plz remind me...
myself too wanted to download that files cuz i hav lost my copy..

Back to the h4X0ring :D
I have a boot disk I got off a Russian cracking site that'll let you reset the administrator password on any NT or 2000 machine. I can't remember the site, but I'll send an image of it to anybody that wants it (just use rawrite to put it on a floppy disk, then put it in the drive and turn it on, you should be fine by following all the default options)
