master35,
the tonfa is a traditional karate/ okinawan weapon. g. master presas calls it "hawakan". i suggest that you ask the weapons forum because the tonfa isn't a traditional fma weapon.

Contact Rommel Tortal or Jasper de Ocampo www.manilapitbulls.com, De Ocampo teaches the Presidential guard, S.W.A.G and several security Agencies while Tortal is involved with the Philippine Special Forces. Both are highly skilled in using the Batons from LEo Gaje's LAw Enforcement Program that is bieng adapted and re introduced to a lot of Law Enforcement Agencies/ The Tonka or pr-24 that is used by several agencies is found to be cumbersome and harder for most to use effectively resulting in excessive use of force , the "KOga" method has also resulted in law suits around the U.S.A. As a Securtiy and Militray consultant we are in favor of the baton rather than the Pr-24, the advantages far outweigh the pr-24.

The tonfa (or PR-24) is not a great piece of kit. We use them in GMP and I really miss my old ASP I used in Kent Police!
For a good idea look at kali/escrima/arnis based systems as they emphasise an element of locking in the syllabus. Gene LeBell also has deeloped a "grappling club". Although this is not immediately the same as a PR/Tonfa, the techniques shown have quite a bit of crossover.
The best advice is to get a willing partner and "play" using the club as an extension of your arm (e.g. posting it through and then grabbing the end to effect the pressure). It is amazing what you can come up with!

Just remember that whatever locks you do come up with, do not practice or reveal them to others or talk about it. SAy you used one of the dept. sanctioned moves...if it's caught on video, well things happen in the heat of the moment but if they find out you specifically train these moves make sure you have the go signal to use it. Each Dept. is different. If it is not part of your training regiment that is officially recognized by your dept. then it can't be used at least in a court of law everything must be court defensable. Damn Lawyers!. This is the problem and can make your department loose a Law suit. L.E.O agencies ask you to work magic with limited sources. Case in point, the on going use of the PR-24, most are taught basic moves but it is not required that they be very proficient in using it...almost non practice them to be very good at it and it ends up beign a billy club. Zero skill = excessive use of unskilled force. But in the Philippines....there is another option....salvage!! heheh.
