I think it would be a good idea to update the techniques section of the MAP magazine.

The reason is when people talk about their own particular style I'm lost when they use foreign terms, especially the Japanese JJ and Judo terms.

What does everyone think?

Hi TKD

Ideally I would like to see more descriptions/photos of techniques found in various martial arts, such judo/ju jitsu throws, locks, take downs, general clinch work etc.

This would mean that if you didn't understand a technique because of the language barrier you could look at it in the magazine section and get a clearer picture.

I'm the same but when someone is talking about a basic hip toss but use a foriegn term. I would have no idea what they were talkin about even though I know what a hip toss is ! hmm, did that make sense???

Then again they might have no idea what a hip toss is, that's where the problems come in. You'd probably need a fairly large dictionary to translate the various terms for even a single technique.

But if the pictures were there showing the techniques and a description it would go a long way in helping our understanding of each others art. I was only using a hip toss as an example, if you showed more pictures of different techniques I believe it would show us artists that we have a lot of common ground that is not recognised through words alone.

Hopefully the techniques section will grow, my main aim is for members to send in techniques which we could add to the section.

My mate has one and we've catalogued some stuff. I'd like to get all our syllabus's on pic in future. I'll try to get some stuff done and will get them in.
