View Full Version : Looking for clubs in my area

Hi Everyone
I live in Godalming (Surrey, UK) and I'm ideally looking for a club where I can learn Jeet Kune Do. However, I have two problems; first I realise there aren't many of them! and secondly I work away a lot so I find it difficult to commit to certain days every week (which is REALLY annoying!).
So, I'm really looking for a Jeet Kune Do club and as many Wing Chun clubs as possible in my local area so I can train as much as possible.
And... I'm also looking for a new Tai Chi teacher as mine has given up teaching. I want to learn the application rather than just the movement (i.e. as a martial arts rather than just for health).
If you can help I would be very grateful!
Thanks
Simon

There is a club in Orpington Kent that
would not take you long to get to.
This is run by Guro Ralph Jones
(Full Instructor under Guro Dan Inosanto).
His class is on Sundays used to be 11am - 12.30pm
Check out www.zanshinkali.co.uk to find out more about him.

Another BIG recommendation for Ralph - if you can get to him then do so.
Ralph's a great guy & has probably forgotten more about JKD than I currently know!

You are so right about Ralph.
He has so much Knowledge and is a really nice bloke as well.
Very much the quite man of JKD in the UK.
Often forgotten about when people talk about the early days but
he, Bob and Terry go back a long way.

Bob was telling us about the early days in which he and Ralph used to experiment on each other! He had a wicked glint in his eyes so there must have been alot of pain involved!
But anyway he most definitely comes highly recommended.

If you can't make Ralphs classes there's also a Club in Mottingham, Kent run by Paul Finn(my instructor).
Paul is a apprentice instructor under Guro Inosanto and Guro Jones.
Classes are Monday 7.45 to 9.45 and starting the 8th of
January. A new kick boxing class on Wednesdays.

There's a Wing Tchun (Autodefence) club in Godalming, run by a very nice chap called Joe Segar. He's a senior coach under Nick Smart, good instructor and very open minded. He has quite a large group, with some nice skillful guys in the club.
I believe he advertises in the area, but I could track him down if you want his details.

Thanks very much for the info, but I think i'll stick with my local JKD club for now. I e-mailed Paul Finn and found out that the classes with Ralph Jones are at Darrick Wood - my old school! So that's very convenient, I just need to get some money together now lol and start getting back into shape :D only thing is..it's only once a week and it's £7.50 a lesson..seems a bit expensive to me :-/

Thanks Bigrich
I've actually been along to Joe's class already, he is a nice guy. I'll be going regularly once I get to stay in the UK for a few weeks on the trot!

Guro Ralph is the real deal and the best instructor i have trained under, He is only 1 of 5 people in England who hold full instructorships under Guro Dan Inosanto and is a wealth of other knowleage in the arts, and to be honest £7.50 for one and a half hours is a samll amount to pay when you learning from one of the best.
