Apparently a clip of Billy Blanks taking part in a karate contest. Taken from mcdojo.com

Those with sharp eyes will notice the guy 'alledged' to be Billy Blanks actually scores first with a sharp reverse punch to the body.

I have only a vague idea who Billy Blanks is, and no idea what he looks like. *shrug*
Does that rear punch actually make contact then, I though it looked as though it was pulled short.

Billy Blanks was first known for acting roles in a series of 'straight to video 'B' movies, more famously though as the founder of 'Tae -Bo' the art of deadly Lycra.
Can't be conclusive on the scoring technique due to the frame rate, but I bet you didn't even see it till I pointed it out. That folks, is what point fighting's all about.

What, hitting them first then getting knocked out by a kick to the head?
Ahh, now I remember why I don't do point.

LOL! :D
Jimmy- I think it was meant to be semi-contact. Anyone can take a cheap shot.
Kinda reminds me of the time some of my old kung fu buddies entered a semi contact comp & some Thai Boxers entered. One Thai guy came out & knocked his opponent out cold with a sweet left hook - and WON!
Semi contact - Hmmm......

Ahh. Semi contact. Yes. Naturally.
Doesn't that suggest that something's wrong there?
I still remember my best experience practicing for semi-contact.
At first I was blocking as well as attacking, which I was told not to do because it wasn't 'realistic' and it didn't let my opponent have a chance of hitting me. So I stopped blocking. Then I was told to stop throwing so many attacks because my partner wasn't getting a chance to throw his own, and again it wasn't 'realistic'. Then I was told to stop dodging. Until in the end we basically just stood there and exchanged blows.
Then when it came to the actual contest (just a small in class thing) I threw a technique and got disqualified for punching to the head.
Never again.

LOL!
Semi contact is not my cuppa tea - but semi contact has gotta be preferable to no contact - or no sparring. At least they're out there contesting their stuff against a non cooperative opponent who's trying to do the same back! :D

Yup!
not to mention some of those people who do fight points may also be kick-ass muvva's in their spare time. They might also spar, they might also do full contact, just as they might also be UFC fighters!
Who's to say?
If your only experience of points is one lesson in class, and a couple of snips off the net, then you really need to get out more.
My next post may be a 'yawn'.

But...but...I'm not gonna try and hit them nice and gently to leave them standing so they can hit me back...
Excessive contact, hate that rule.

An analysis for those who have never fought points matches;
Guy nearest to us, is setting up the Billy Blanksalike. Watch his feet as he tries to edge close enough, without getting in range of his opponents hands. Watch as he tugs up his trouser leg in preparation for the kick. When he's ready to go, his first punch, isn't actually a punch. It's a backfist, but he's fighting from an opposite lead, a Southpaw. He never has any intention of scoring with this, all he's doing is putting that big white glove in front of his opponents eyes, so they can't see the kick coming in time. Not sure whether you'd class it as a sidekick or a reverse turning kick, as it's a bit of both. It does knock the guy over, but I don't believe it knocks him out as the last thing you see in the clip is that our prone friend is actually holding his arms above the mat surface.

Yup - I agree Andy - he pushed him over with that kick. Pity "Billy" didn't throw that reverse punch to the face and lean into it rather than staying in his back stance.

Thought the guy pulling his trousers was a dead giveaway thought.

Then again, it could have been a psyche out. he could have wanted his opponent to think he was going to kick, while he went for something else.
Points fighting was once described to me as psychological 'tag'
It's a game, a sport, and this is actually a poor example of it!
