Sup guys,
I just started Aikido, yesterday. I always wanted to practice a martial arts but was always unable to;mostly because of money. Now that I graduated from college and I have a steady job, I decided to go ahead and do it.
My hurt shoulder was also another reason why I didn't take up a martial arts. About 6 years ago I hurt my left shoulder playing basketball at the local park (those new yorkers can be really ruff). My shoulder still gives me problems if I throw puches, feels like it will pop out of the socket.
I'm not a violent person. I don't ever want to get into fights, but I would like to know that I can defend myself if some hooligan comes to attack me. Because of these reasons, I chose Aikido as my martial art.
I've been comming to this site and reading the Aikido postings. There was a lot of good stuff, but I have to say that this user named Sonshu really kills the excitment of Aikido as he is always saying how he thinks Aikido is 'Not a complete art'. I know these are things that I'm going to deal with regardless, and there's always someone that will critisize anything you do, but man, this kinda thing is depressing. I know different opinions make earth the beautiful place that it is, and I wouldn't have it any other way, but I'm human, and sometimes these things affect me. Sonshu, I'm not telling you to change your ways, be yourself.
I'm planning to stick with aikido for at least 7 years, but I have to be sure that this is the art for me. Aikidokas, from your experiences, how good/difficult/fun has Aikido been for you? If you had the chance to start over again, would you stick with Aikido or choose a different MA?
thanks
