Hi all, I'm a noob to MAP but have been training for a while in Aikido and since my elbow shattering accident I've been 'studying' aikido rather then practising. I thought that there was only a breath throw but there would appear to be heaps of variations on this theme - Kokyu nage seems to be a grouped term for more then one throw.
Anyone care to discuss?

There are litterly thousands of Kokyu nage. There are about a couple of hundred basics.( i only know about 50)
If you ever get the chance to read Saito senseis new books- vol-4, Kokyu nage series there are about 50-60 tech all very basic
Remember the founders words Aikido has ten thousand tech, and 100,000 varations.

Well, he also said that aikido has no techniques. I myself prefer the words of Hiroshi Ikeda, 7th dan under Mitsugi Saotome Shihan:
"There is only one technique in aikido: uke falls down."

I tend to think of kokyu nage as "anything goes" which means it's limitless. :)
How did you manage to shatter your elbow samurai_spice?

Aikiwolfie,
Long story short:
I had a highside on a Yamaha R1 and was thrown off [12:15 noon 29-02-04]. When the guys I was riding with got to me and one of them said I cartwheeled down the guardrail.[Maybe but I think the damage should be worse] I remember hearing the sound not unlike the snapping of a plastic ruler somewhere 'tween the first blue flash and the dust covering me, but I don't really know.
I snapped the humerous and damaged the ulnar and have a big bolt in my humerous and some bolts and wire plus two big spike looking things and I severed my tricep and bicep, lost large amounts of bone and nerves too.
