I really hate to point this out buddy but this thread exists in the movie section.

Anyways I think jackie 'cause he can take a hard punch or two 'cause of his history as a stuntman.

I don't really know how they'd fight in a real fight.

hard to say, they both are very skilled, and very accomplished fighters......
Though, I'd be rooting for Jet, Jackie could win just as easily. Now this is in an actual fight...As far as movies are concerend, also hard to say, but I would say that Jakie's stunts are much better;)

Jet li 5 times wushu champion in china :) did that pretty much summed up??plz dont' tell me wushu is all that flying stuff...first u do it... n think... ;) i think contemporary wushu is hard than regular wushu...jackie knows his MA much from opera group(not confirming that he don't know real thing, but its quite same as contemporary wushu)

I'm warming towards Jet, I think theres more realism in his films. Sometimes get bored of Jackie's acrobatic crazyiness that are often closer to gymnastics than martial arts. Still a big fan of both before anybody shouts at me! ;)

All Jackie Chan would have to do is cut the wires Jet Li uses in most of his films.

I would have to say Chan, his old movies show him to be quite an accomplished fighter.

I shout at u :D

I think it's the other way around, Jet li does more flashy stuff, but Jackie has a touch of realism in his movies, I mean it's flashy but close enuff to the real thing.........

BTW It does not really matter who wins, wat matters to me is that Bruce Lee could kick some serious a$$ than both of them combined :D

I think it would damn close, but I think Jackie. This is only because Jakcie is amore varried martial artist. He has not only trained in multiple styles of kung but also judo, karate, tae kwon do, wrestling, hapkido and modern boxing. Jet Li know Wushu and Jeet kune Do. And I like Jackies movies better.

Given that Jet Li's main style is wushu (considering he was the national wushu champion for a few years, it makes sense), I don't think he could last very long against someone who doesn't only practice choreographed sparring and forms. Not saying he'd be an easy win, but an Olympic-quality Taekwondo artist could take him out, I think. I don't think Jackie would win either, because he just wouldn't want to fight, even though he could probably win.

Bruce probably could beat them both, though. He was the cha-cha champion, or so I've read:

'one, two, WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!'

I think you guys are underestimating how quick Jet Li is. No offence to Jackie, but I think Jet would run rings around him. He's use some of that boxing style from fist of legend.

jet li certainly is fast enough. I just wonder if jackie has more experience sparring than jet does.

Don't under estimate the self defence values of wushu, whiel the forms mgith seem flashy they are just stylised to build up strength and so you are prepared when you have to use you skills in a fight. Because you can do a low 60-40 stance you can easily make that 60-40 stance rise and go on the ball so fyour feet for a good fighting stance, all of the moves can be used for self defence.

Neither of them can ever touch Bruce Lee, Bruce simply doesn't exists anymore so that makes it impossible.

I would say it is a very close match, where Chan has a little more advantage that he is a little more experienced and seem to have a little more mass than Li; but it will still depend on how hard they try in the end.

OK well I'm not going to go into the whole who can beat who thingy.
BUT I have worked with the Jackie Chan stunt team and this is coming straight from the horses mouth -
The horse being James Brad Allen who is built like one.

Jackie does a massive training regime just before his movies, usually having people stand on his stomach while doing sit ups and push ups and stays on the treadmill for quite a while, all this while wearing a sweater and tracksuits.
When training he tells all his group members to do the same, although he mainly just gives advice rather than teach as each member is already an accomplished fighter/stuntmanMAist and knows what they are doing anyway.
Jackie DOES spar using MT rules but SPARRING with protective gear (no helmet tho i think) as with all the publicity he does for children charities and needing to go to auditions, he needs to look his best, and facial wounds would put off producers and send the wrong message to the charities he visits and his other members also go about and do their own films too or are hired to do other films, so it is understandable that they have to protect their looks.
The sparring is mainly for reflex enhancing, but they take enough bumps and bruises during their 'stunt training'. They have a warehouse type hall where they can set up any scenario and they go through it like a excercise course, with cameras so people can see if it looked good on camera.

This info was about 4 years ago while I spent like 3 days/nights on Accidental Spy (the bank scene) You cant really see me but I'm the only guy with a Long Sleeved blue blazer and one of the security guards and was also a civilian but that bit got cut out :bang: (all in the same scene too...good thing we all look alike us Chinese eh?)

Oh this is a tough one. I think Jackie has grossed more overall, but Jet has had some big box office hits too. Jackie has started to use wires too, and this may hurt his movie image. Boy this is a tough one.

He did until Once Upon A TIme in China, he hurt his back - like 3 slipped discs or something.
Since then he has been able to do stunts but mainly with the help of wire work to relieve some pressure from his back.
In Once Upon..2, the fight with Donny Yen at the end there is a part where Wong Fie Hung swings around a pole and smacks Donny in the face. If slowed down slightly you can see that it is not Jet.
The result in the hit was also accidental to Donny as he ended up with 4 stitches to his eyebrow.

Jackie is starting to use wires and blue/green screens (chrom-a-key) due to his age. He is 50 yrs now and his body has taken quite a toll.

He hurt his knee in OUATIC, when he jumped down from the balcony with the umbrella. The rest of the film is not him (except for the medium shots and shots where he doesn't move). He doesn't need the wirework but, since that's the accepted convention, he uses it.

This argument is silly. Not only is Jet Li incredibly fast (so fast that you can actually tell when it's not him on screen because the speed is different), but he's trained in several martial arts (not just wushu) since he was a kid. Jackie Chan was an acrobat in Beijing Opera who learned MA in order to fill the void left by Bruce Lee. Jet Li age 31 (his age now) would have killed Jackie Chan age 31 simply from fighting/training experience. These days Jackie Chan is too slow anyway.

The only time Jet Li was doubled was once upon a time in china last fight, he has allways done his own own stunts since, the injury he suffered was minor.

Well then by your definition, the drama school is just as 'fake' as wushu then.

Chinese Opera dancers are taught like gymnastic teams from a young age to be able to do various flips, spins and flexibilty.
Then with 'perfomance' weapons such as rubbery spears and blunt swords
Then the characters they play which is usually just one or two as the troupe would only concentrate on certain amount of plays.
Then comes the art of learning how to put on make up.
Watch Farewell My Concubine a Chinese drama about what these kids go through physically as well as psychologically.
Jackie was always told to play the 'Princess' so there are actually quite of lot of pics of him in drag in his books.
Lucky for him as a few generations earlier, the coaches used to 'force' the midset of the boy to think of himself as a 'girl' to fully intergrate into their roles as there were no girls in the troupe.

Both styles of Wushu and Chinese Opera (which is basically Wushu/Gymnastics) gave them both the perfect foundation to go into the Film making industry.
Jackie would be more prepared than Jet I would say as Jet never needed to learn lines and act as part of his 'forms' performance.
